Every now and then, I see folks left their gear behind. It must be rather inconvenient to have left even the least expensive bit of gear behind.

I have worked out a simple system to ensure that my essential windsurfing components are not to be left behind. Here is how it works...

I use a numbering system.

Rigged up sail
1. Mast
2. Boom
3. Sail
4. Mast-foot + (Mast sleeve)

Board
5. Board

Accessories
6. Harness
7. Wetsuit
8. Sun glasses
9. Sailing gloves

If you do a careful roll-call before shutting the car doors, you will be fine for the next trip

Or you can double check around the area you derigged.

Focus and stop gas bagging when you're derigging

Yes, if you so happened to detach the fin from your board, or your universal joint, or your foot straps

Werner gives me back the stuff I left. Nice to have a local hire bloke leaving after everybody is done

I really don't want to read too much into this comment. Whether it is meant to be a humour, or implying that only sissies girlie men wear gloves.

I posted my suggestion in an effort to help other windsurfers. Yes, I am not a tough amigo like you. Would that make your day ?

am told if you sail a LOT you better wear gloves !!
so, forget the comment ...

i try to put everything back in the vehicle when done with it or separated from the rest
and like in golf, put the club near the flag on the green ie keep the stuff together

people forget downhaul tools ALL the time
i keep mine the back pocket -> either am sailing with it or it is back in the van
that's why i wear trunks over my wetsuit
for keys, tape and downhaul tool

lost my windmeter somewhere on Devil Island
was using it while not windsurfing
was a Kestrel and a gift from my wife
so, we all lose stuff !!

aha - i have a good story 4 that one

my wife INSISTED i get a cell phone - good deal, plan, etc
all resistance was futile
first time i went windsurfing with it and left it in the van ...
i had a missed call from her, a voice-message and a text
"when r u coming home"
told her i did NOT need a cell phone 4 that

havent had this problem since i got a van - fin / universal gets done as it get taken out or put back into the van.

Only pull sails and masts out leaving the sleaves in the van so they just slot back into their spot at the end.
Everything get s put back into the van after use so i know where to find it.

hehe... I had to rescue a mate once when he was sailing out the back. He was wearing one of those yellow key round containers you hang around the neck. Not sure what happened, but their was a malfunction with it, and he saw his car key flip and twist it way across the air before plopping into the deep. Just shows you that you can't think of everything hehe :)
