i'm not sure exactly what gear will be there yet. I would still be taking my board and rig.
kiting is fine but as on the weekends there is 5 planes in a day, you would have to be aware of that.
some winter specials have just gone on sale. 7 nights accomm inc breakfast & airfares x Syd or Brisbane for $908. Thats looking pretty good.
Have sailed 5 out of the last 7 days here on the island.
Check out FastBook or Oxley Travel.
Yeah that is twin share.
I think gear will probably come over via private charter. I just need everyone to commit and then to ascertain how much gear there will be.
I think 2 boards would be the go. I have a 109L, a 93L & a 77L and can get out in pretty much all conditions. Sails- if you can bring 4, the more the merrier. One can never have too many options........although it sometimes does complicate things, but still.....
I have three boards, Tabou Rockets 140 and 105 and an old Bic Saxo wave board. I have sails ranging from 7.2, 6.6 and 6 meter Neil Pryde racing sails of various ages and a KA racing 5.0 sail and Sailworks Revos 5.0 and 4.4.
What sort of gear would be best to take?
I had a look at those websites and didn't see anything for August.

On the Oxley Travel site you will see the specials valid until Sep for lord Howe. I think they're only available until the 18 May.
I would bring the 7.2, 6, 5 & 4.4. For boards, what sail do you use the 105L with? If you can use that with the 7.2 I would just bring that. I will have a JP Freemove 89L there for people to use. If you don't like the sound of that bring the Saxo as well. It's up to you and what you feel comfortable sailing. I don't think you will need the 140L.
I actually have not used the 105 Rocket yet as the wind has been light since I bought it. I don't think I'd want to use the 7.2 with it. If I could get away with the 6.6 that would make travelling much easier. I'd be happy to take one board and perhaps four sails and two masts.
We are keen to go so we will have another look at the Oxley site. Three months away gives us enough time to plan for it.
Edit: Just had a look and yes the specials are there. Bit of a bummer about the taxes though, $130 per person! If my wife can use her frequent flyer points it might reduce overall costs.
I think you will be fine with the 6.6. It is a great idea to try for FF points, last time I looked I would have been able to go both ways like this. If you are able to do that, you would probably come out in front. You do still have to pay the taxes.
It would be great to have you guys.
I bet you're stinging to use that board!
What sort of wind range are you talking? I weigh about 95kgs, so taking the right board and sails is important and I hate to be sailing 30 knots on a 135 litre board, or trying to sail 15 knots on a 100 litre board.
Does the timing of the charter plane for the equipment allow for staying 2 weeks?
You can stay for as long as you like, the charter plane does regular runs to & from the island.
I would suggest 2 boards, the smallest volume large sail carrying board you have ie for say 12-18K & then a board that will do you for 20- 30K. Generally the Sw Fronts hit hard 25-35K and then blow 18-25K for a few days & then lighten to 12-18K.
At this time of year- dates of trip 10-17 Aug there is pretty much always wind.Of course there are always anomalies. If you like check out the BOM site for Lord Howe & look at the windroses/charts for this time of year. The fronts coming through are pretty regular!
I just thought I would post these deals to the island for this winter that are valid until 18/5/08.
Again, I have nothing financial invested in any of these places!!!
