Does any one know if there is a viable longboard scene in Perth. I have noted on other windsurf sites that NSW, QLD, VIC and SA have windsurfing clubs which support various longboard racing divisions such as Mistral OD, Kona, RS:X Windsurfer OD. They also talk about a growing longboard scene, but WA doesn't seem to get any mention when it comes to longboards - that is unless some is bagging them.
BTW getting back into WS after a break of many years only to find my teenage kids and theirs friends are keen to have a go after looking at some recent freestyle and wave riding videos, but thats another subject.

Hey sambo,

There are a few sailors who occasionally pull out the longboard. I picked up a couple of Mistrals (thanks Snides and Marcus) for lightwind fun and also got given an Elvstrom for taking the kids out. There are a couple of other crew with Mistrals. I'd say there are more Formula boards than longboards because there are a lot of 10-14kt days where a Formula is heaps of fun. I like the raceboard cause it's not so crazy if the wind picks up and it's more fun in 8kts. We probably don't have a "scene" cause there's enough 12+kt days where you can sail shortboards to satisfy most. I have small kids so like to be able to go out whatever the weather when I have the free time slot.

Cheers, P

I have a couple of longboards, an equipe 2 and a lightning. I use them because i need to fit my sailing in around my family and the kids are too young to start windsurfing yet. I usually go down to peli pt and follow the yacht fleets around.

Thanks paddymac & walive, judging by the amount of responses I think you were right about the acceptance of any type of longboard in WA. Although after getting back into the water last Nov after an absence of many years The sea breeze is nothing like it used to be in the old days. The forecast has been woefully wrong these last few months and I have found myself sitting and waiting too many times for the wind to pick up - which why I was compelled to start this topic. I've been down at Melville most of the time and getting eager to get back into the ocean. Will keep an eye out when next at PP. Cheers.

We've had orders for a couple NEW Windsurfer One Designs that will be in shortly, and enquiries for more, so it does look as though there is a resurgence happening!

Personally, I think that they can be great fun and there is a place in the windsurfing world for them.

I will however, be having news of the 2013/14 sail & sup equipment next week, as I'm on the way to the Canaries for the RRD Dealers meet.
I'll be updating 2nd Winds Facebook page when possible.

Have fun back there..looks like you've got wind at last. Jez

Put a cork in the centre board casing it stops from sticking when new.
