how is the Severne Raceboard 9.5 ??
have an opportunity to get one
currently use SW Retro 8, HSM SPF 8.5, MS TR-6 8.4 or TR-4 10.0
depending on conditions - the SW is used less in the summer (has a tear)
have written a post about longboard sails a while back
joewindsurfer.blogspot.com/2014/03/longboard-sails_4.html
does not include the Aerotech Dagger 9.5, S2Maui Wicked 9.5 nor the SW Flyer
so ... am wondering about what people feel is their BEST longboard sail and experiences with the Severne Raceboard sail
guess i should stipluate modern sails - yes, older sails with less twist are great with longboards too
as a heavyweight, am mostly interested in the 8-10 meter range
the Ezzy Zephyr does qualify and have heard ravings
not made any more, but believe some are using the Lion
thanks in advance
I have had a few larger Ezzys. They are great sails, but I think the foot is cut a bit too low to be ideal for longboards.
It can tend to drag in the water when reaching flat out.
This happens on both my IMCO and F2 lightning with the mast track right back.
I think in their last few iterations the Cheetah and Lion might be a bit bit higher cut in the foot.
Clarence
Hi Joe, ive got 2018 9.5 Ezzy lion and 2012 9.5 Severne Raceboard. As Clarence said when fully wound up the Lion foot does have a tendency to drag in the wash coming from side of board..thatd be my only complaint. Rigging wise the Severne RB is quicker to rig n derig.Cams just pop off when derigging. On the water the Severne is noticably heavier, but powers the RB as it should. Plenty of power n lift to get railing easily upwind. Best sail i have for winds up to 12-15kt. But it is PHYSICAL. If its gusty id rather use the Lion. It feels lighter, got a bigger range. Depowers easier. I use adjustable outhaul on both sails.
If you race the Severne is the answer. But if its only for recreational sailing. The Lion is pretty damn good.Awesome range
These are my experiences from using both sails regularly. Im certainly no guru.
you guys are telling me what i should have known all along
"if one is not racing , stick to a lighter sail that works"
that is probably why i mostly use the HotSailsMaui SpeedFreak 8.5
they now come with one camber
will stick with what i have
enjoy your summer - still under ice n snow ![]()
