I have a Quattro quad fin 95l board and a Goya 5.3 as my largest sail. I would like to get out on those 12-15 knot days (today is one of them). Should I get a 6.3m sail with a suitable mast? Or does that size sail not really work and I have to face the fact that I need 15 knots minimum?
Just as a comparison, in those conditions I use a 115 L board and a 7 M sail. This is flat water and you may mean on the waves though. I think you need both a bigger board and sail.
A lot depends on your weight and what you want to achieve.
I have a 100L quad which I use with a Goya eclipse 6.2 (I use it on the upper clew setting for more low end) and I am about 78kg. I run 17cm Makani weed wave rears and 9cm fronts. I dont think I would manage anything smaller with the 6.2.
14-15 knots will see me planing but not 12 knots. However it does mean that I can get out for a float and ride in the waves down to about 10 knots.
Big slalom gear 120L / 7.8 will be more fun if the water is flat.
Depends on what you are trying to do. For wave riding you need a sail you can throw around so it's not too useful to go too much bigger. You would be better off with a larger board that will float and ride more comfortably. However if bump and jump is your thing then it makes sense to increase your horsepower.

I am just getting back into the sport after a 20 year break, so any sort of sailing is good. I am happy with flat water, bump and jump or waves. What I am hearing is that if I want to go much bigger with the sail, I need to also go bigger with the board. Trouble is, I would like to stay with one board - I don't want to fill the garage up with heaps of equipment and spend too much money (I realise I just alienated most of the readers on this forum!).
Sounds like I could go to a 6.3 or so on the current board.
I'm about your weight, and pondered the one board solution for a bit of everything (flatwater blasting, waves and ocean bump and jump), and figured something like a 103 Starboard Kode would pretty versatile. Sails from 5 to 7 meters would be possible. So a 3 sail quiver (5,6,7 mtre) should get you out in an having fun in 12-25 knots. Food for thought...

Having a 95 litre board ..it will handle a light no cam 7 metre .just .if its 12 knots you will need all of that .6.9 north volt
Ezzy make a great 6.3 wave ..or a cheetah 6.5 .good powerful sails .severne gator is another powerful one if your looking to keep your size down.
