Inspired by Langy's video of a few weeks ago with the under boom mount

Could not find a suitable clamp to go on the boom extension tubes despite much googling. Did however see lots of c-shapes with grub screw to attach stage lighting to standard 50mm tubes in scaffold, so thought I'd duplicate it just smaller.

So cast up a c-shape with resin and glass, added a bit of sectioned carbon tube to stop the rocking (longitudinally) and it is rock solid

Now for some wind. Sigh...

Maybe whilst waiting for wind I can clean up the birdsh!t looking glue job on the bottom tube but hey more material is stronger right

Mark, I use a $30 GoPro "bike mount" which attaches to the boom extension perfectly... I even leave it on there permanently. There are no sharp protruding bits to rip your board, sail or body apart and it's virtually weightless.

I could've adjusted it a bit better to get the back straps in view.

Hi Mark, you might want to check out K-edge mounts. They are for bikes but should suit your application.
I would still like 1 more plane of adjustment (spin horizon) but there is always the fly mount for that. If u want super light the k-edge is the go. I changed the M5 bolt for 316L stainless so all good for seawater.
I tend to clamp a mount to my boom over a bit of bike inner tube as it sits snug, hopefully won't crush the carbon boom and absorbs some of the vibration. Also words well for paddle mounting though I'm too slack/crap to take any footage.

^^^ main complaints about bike mounts is they are 90deg out on many of them - how do you turn the camera on the K-edge Al?

I heard lots of people complaining about handlebar mounts slipping on landings (especially when u land everything flat like me) but I reckon that K-edge mount would be way more secure than the normal ones like N1gels

Yep, as I said you have no horizontal adjustment - that is a GoPro issue as it's the only cam that has a fixed hinge point as it's mount base (instead of a threaded tripod pin). Sure you can add another arm piece for 90deg change bit it sort of defeats the purpose. Flymount is the best option but lets itself down on weight when clamping on the rear end of the boom.
Another guy on SB has a mount centrally below the clew (connected to both boom arms) so cam faces forward and is slightly behind. This would not unbalance the sail and camera could work on both tacks as it simply faces forward. I like that option best but have not tried it. Looks a bit like like a cradle that the cam sits on. Have a go at that Mark.

If you get a GoPro grab bag, you can turn the camera on any angle.

I've had some rather abrupt stops and the camera hasn't moved from its original position. The rubber lining seems to stop any movement and provides a lot of grip on my alloy boom. The only place it might move is at the hinge on the waterhousing itself, but that will happen with any solution

The only problem with the bike mount is that the footage is recorded upside-down, but that's corrected using GoPro Studio or whatever software you edit in.

I really haven't had any issues with the bike mount. It's simple, light and cheap. I do admire your handiwork though Mark :)

I'd like to try my hand at making a bracket that sits off the back footstraps and points forward. Could be a really good perspective, but it'd have to be angled up high enough to avoid the rooster tail and spray etc.
