Hi. I've taken a few windsurfing lessons in the past and was looking to buy a board and have decided on the Kona One since it would be a good intro board that I could also progress on. I have access to a few sails of various sizes in good condition and was wondering if they are compatible with the Kona One or if I needed to buy the Kona rig and sails with the board. I have not found any info on sailing a Kona One with other sails and wasn't sure if it was an option.

Thanks
Ryan

Thank you so much for the fast response! Glad I'll be able to save some money on sails! Only limitation I know of would be if I wanted to race (not happening in the foreseeable future).

Don't go for full-on wavesails or speed sails, though, if you have the choice. Longboards need a tighter leach and deeper shape.

Racing other Konas? or just other long boards?

Twilight sailing in Bunno & RBs in Busselton.

Not seen a Kona but it might not be as racy as a RB as its smaller (i think). But its always more fun to be out with others on long boards vs by yourself.

There are a few regular longboard sailors in Perth as well as down south.

Show us your kit, might interest others join in.

I agree completely about the wave sail for a Kona One board. I tried to use an older 5.4 wave sail for heavier wind conditions. Never felt right. I have since used other small freeride sails in heavier wind which are much better. (I have modest sailing skills and even I could tell the difference.)
