Need some help on a high wind small board. I can get hold of a koncept 90 in real good condition and cheap or a 2016 Kode 93 allso in excellent condition but the kode is a load more money .I want the small board for bump and jump ,blasting and some wave sailing too .Any help be good.
That's because the Kode is a better board for what you are looking for, I have an 87Lt. Kode and couldn't be happier.
As my ex-wife used to say "cheap is not always best", but she would never apply that logic to my windsurfing stuff, only her stuff.
But I digress, thanks for the memory. ![]()
I think the kode is us box. That limits your fin selection.
Bull**** theres plenty of easily accessible us box fins avalaible - new and used - black project makani maui ultra fins
It limits you to using a smaller less powerful fin. The US box will be less secure when using a larger pointer fin for example. Compared to power box and especially Tuttle.
But who uses larger pointer type fins in the surf?
U.S. boxes are very popular on boards designed for the surf, most all my surf oriented boards have those boxes, and thus many options for fins. Ever since they started adding a post to the bottom of the box (about 15-20 years ago), they've become almost impossible to rotate w/in the board (their previous problem).
The only boxes that I think could be a problem for waves is the slot box, there is not much there, I have some of those also, but haven't had a problem,,,,,,,,,, yet.
People tune kodes to work as free ride boards ( I do), so they aren't just a wave board. My 94 kode is currently configured with two back straps and outboard front and sometimes I think one of the firmer boxes would be nice so that I could use a 32/34cm pointer with confidence. I know some people have done surgery on their kodes to change the box over to Tuttle or power box.
Yes but that is not what nerdycross wanted the board for in his post - small board for high wind and a few waves - US box is perfect - just saying
I've got the Kode 103. It has a US Box. I use it with a Gator 6.0 sail and 30cm G10 freewave fin for bump and jump sailing in 18 to 25kts. It works really well.
