Hi All,
I was just wondering:
Are there any kite boarders that have changed to windsurfing and if so why?
I don't ....but had a mate come back to windsurfing ...after getting rescued 3 times kiting .
but ..yeah look out here we go again .
Well said subsonic.touchy subject to some .
Perhaps, for posting in the windsurfing forum, the questions could be posed:
1. "What have Windsurfers returning to Windsurfing learned from Kitesurfing?"
or 2. ""When coming back to Windsurfing, is lugging more gear around better for your fitness than Kiteboarding?"
or 3. "Do you look more attractive to women rigging a Sailboard than trying to pump up a Kite?"
or 4. "Do you really care, both sports and are fun and each to their own, or both!"
Seriously, if you like being or behaving like a TROLL - go else where!
Kites are kites and respect their sport for what they do. Sailboards for what they do.
If they co-mingle, all the better for time on water. Add to that Surfing, Sailing, Boating and SUP's, go forth and enjoy
Maybe i should explain.
Having windsurfed in the past Ive recently decided to try it again. I thought about kite surfing but some how didnt think it was quite for me. Thinking that there must be some people out there that may have tried both I thought it would be good to hear about their findings.
I have 4 sons who kite. They bought me a kite set up for my 50th a couple of years ago. I had a lesson with the local dealer and a second lesson with one of my sons. i didn't like the harness trying to remove my rib cage from my body and decided that I would much prefer to keep windsurfing which I find really challenging and exciting and gives you a sense of freedom like no other sport! So I traded the kiting gear on some more windsurfing gear

Well said. The more ways we can find to have fun on the water the better. Except for jet skis...
Heaps of windsurfers have tried kiting.
Many have returned to windsurfing
Many have never looked back.
But the original question.
"Is there life on Mars?
"Is there anyone on Earth who started out kiting but ended up windsurfing?"
Remains unanswered.
"Is there anyone on Earth who started out kiting but ended up windsurfing?"

Interesting question!
"Are there any kite boarders that have changed to windsurfing and if so why?"
I would say......yes.
Why? I dunno, maybe they enjoyed it more?
Ive been windsurfing since 1982 . I took up kiting in 2000 . I was stoked to find a sport where you could boost so easily but a few injuries did come with it. Is it quick to pick up kiting if you already windsurf (beyond understanding where the wind comes from etc)?
"Is there anyone on Earth who started out kiting but ended up windsurfing?"
Remains unanswered.
Indeed, This is a bit worrying that so many important questions remains unanswered.
But there is easy solution.
We could introduce licensing. If you want to do kiting, or windsurfing , we could apply for licence in nearest City Council.
They will issue licence to Kitesurf and entry will be automatically recorded in national database.
Small fee, like a $500 annually should prevent overcrowding our waterways.
Kiting Photo ID, help also , can be used to purchase liquor by those minor looking kiters, that lost their driving licences over demerits points.
Licencing and registering also allow to reinforce sailing rules.
For example new proposed sign introduced :
like a 20 knots limits - means all unable to reach the speed must be eliminated from main speed bank route and stick to peripheral shallows.
Returning to original question.
If you were issued with Windsurfing licence , and suddenly want to switch to kite surfing, City Council may approve your application upon providing geniue reasons :
-Like family circumstances - lost of home that prevent you from space for storage windsurfing equipment , but kiters still could hide their bag under bunk , or leave even their kites hanging on the trees till next sailing
-mentioned above lost of driving licence- kiters could commute on push bike to the nearest water hole, windsurfers for obvious reason can't
-lost of half of brain tissue or more due to weed smoking.
This half is responsible for keeping balance required by windsurfers. Not required by kiters that simply hang on puppets ropes.
The next interesting consequences could be introduction for compulsory third party insurance.
For obvious reasons those contribution by kiters will be setup triple to those paid by windsurfers.
Windsurfing equipment is very expensive and kiters crushing and damaging polies should cover whole replacement cost.
On another hand kiters flyers are worthless so poles should not be dragged to worry about compensations.
Short verbal exchange like : " Be careful mate next time when kiting under my fin. c'use you could blent , chip or scratch it.! "

What have you been smoking?

Another vote for doing both, kiting is super handy for travel and light winds and or shallow water spots, but when it's windy I prefer to windsurf.
A lot depends on location and conditions to which is one is the better option.
