With all the R+D going into sails , why can none of my sail bag handles be anywhere near centre of gravity ?
Yep true, but is it to hang up and let water drain out?
Otherwise your sail will smell of fish.

Does anyone in the whole world ever hang sails by sail bag handles ?
I don't think anyone has ever even in a parallel universe.
I don't use them, problem solved.
My sails are rolled up, on a rack, in my van, no bags. It's just something else to get in the way and the sails dry out faster if not in a bag. I hate board bags also, useless things that just get in my way. One of my mottos, "bag the bags".
sail bags are designed to be carried with the sail put in one way only .to be balanced .![]()
let me know when you find it .![]()
So what is the reason? My answer of hanging up to drain the water is at least a reason. Even though me and no one else has ever done it. Every NP bag I have is evenly off kilter so it's no accident. I think doing the illogical and putting the sail in luff first applifies the tilt doesn't it.
We need to get the guy from the factory who puts the handles on sup boards to deal with this problem.

And the winner for the best "1st world problem" goes to .... Drum roll ... Imax1
Occasionally on a Friday night Imax will drink boose. Not accusing, just saying.
That's when my genius shines ![]()
Hot sails maui sail bags handles are (or were) perfectly balanced
I concur : )
But you have to put them in the right way. Perhaps that's all it is for all brands?

I have. I did it a few weeks ago with my new Ezzy Chettah. The bag has a gauze on the bottom and it seemed logical to hang it on the Hill's Hoist by it's handle for 30min.
I wonder if parallel universes have Hill's Hoists ?. Hmmmm...... Hmmmmm..... Hmmmmm........................![]()

the salt will kill the lawn - I stand them on some bricks in a bin. amazing how much salt ends up on the bricks.
but what about board bags, why does the handle always seem to be on the wrong side. why not use velcro instead of zips, and put a grab strap across the bag on the wide ones so you can at least grab it by the centre when dragging it around.
Some sail bags have very long handles (I think Point 7?) which ameliorates the centre of gravity problem.
I remember watching a video once, cant recall sail brand but it showed proper sail storage with luff inserted into bag first and a hook loop on btm of bag to hang to allow water to drain from batten pockets. No r&d goes into sail bags when you have to insert the largest end of a object into a bag first.
Unless its of course ... bags that are so big and bulky you could almost fit 2 sails in, love my old repurposed Gaastra slimline bags, sooo much tidier.
Yup, board bags, mast bags, sail bags, handles for the most part are all in the wrong spot. Frustrating when you have to use 2 hands to carry a large sail in a sail bag, when you should only have to use one. Darn straps!!! I have this crazy idea of sewing on my girlfriend's bra strap to the sail bag in the center sweet spot, and using the bra cups as paded shoulder straps. ![]()

My mum invented &was selling in shops in aspen adjustable straps with Velcro on the end to wrap your skis up with to carry.
I keep forgetting to throw a set in sailing bag so i can take mast, sail &boom strapped up over shoulder.
For when I've got to carry to rigging area . But it sounds like a solution to your problem.

Naturally the tilt allows for drainage so that the zipper freezes up. Have you ever gone out to rig after a break only to find that you can't open the bag because the salt has jammed the zip? Personally, I don't use the handles much, just carry it over the shoulder.
A few years ago I had a discourse with Neil Pryde about how best to store my sails. I asked about vertical on luff pocket or clew, or horizontal on two dowels. The response was to store the sail in the bag, suspended by the handle at a height that allowed the clew to rest gently on the ground. It really does work well and the sail is very well supported.
if you store sails horizontal in townsville be prepared to have ants move in and eat your sails lost two ka sails that way, they ate out the luff in a matter of weeks. ezzy sails have a loop for hanging them vertical on the luff the ants don,t seam to like it when they are vertical. also can not store them on the board same problem.we need to check them regularly.
^^^ and they thought sparky was stupid
We were all confused , Sparky knew ![]()
Thanks now we have to rearrange our sail storage.
What are the balanced Ezzy owners going to do ?
Still i think they should have a balanced HANDLE for carrying , ( because thats what handles do ) so it doesnt make you use two hands and look like your carrying a huge gattling gun , and a offset loop or hook for hanging .
And some instructions for us confused ones ![]()
Ezzy sails bags have a mark on the handle so you know exactly where to put your hand depending whether the sail is wet, damp or dry for perfect carrying balance - Ok - myabe not ![]()
