Headed that way today for family gathering but thought I'd put the gear in the car as I see a NE breeze predicted. Having not sailed this beach before any advice/pointers appreciated. (White pointers can go away!). Ta. ![]()
I lived at callala bay for 17 years and never sailed callala beach, you mite get a wind shadow from the headland at callala bay , it would be better if you launch from Myola at the beach end
I'm going out from callala bay about 3pm.
Just north of the moored boats.
I went out yesterday about 4pm. I was on a
380 raceboard and a 8.3 sail.
Was perfect. Sailed up to top of the bay and reached back to the boat ramp.
I ended up opting for the easy option at huskisson/ilfracombe st. Plenty of parking despite hi season. I was one of two windsurfers. When I rocked up there were plenty of kites up. They all seemed to shift about 100m windward when I rigged downwind of them. Was it something I said
.
Actually chose huski as I had wife n 18mth with me. So at least they could go and find some thing to do. I was only out from 3.45 to 4.30 tho as then the wind dropped off as the storm passed. I also got a little "sharkanoid" having read somewhere that there have been plenty of sightings recently near Hyams.
I think it was blowing about 20-23 knots. I have a 105 liter with 5.3m up. It was fun whilst it lasted. Callala beach from a distance looked sailable. I will have to keep the bay in mind too. Cheers.
I went out yesterday at Callala Bay about 3pm.
Rigged up 7.5 with 380 raceboard.
Too windy for me. Did 3 out and backs and fell into the sail!
It was brief and expensive but very fast!
