For the love of all that is good, please moderate your membership. My local group is being deluged by bot/thirst trap accounts and every.single.one is already a member of six to nine windsurfing groups.

Yes, these are bots. They seem to have very similar profiles (they really love permutations of Flushing and Ashburn), have thirst trap photos, are all "digital content creators" and only history is sharing a few windsurfing groups to their own feeds.

fwiw, they don't do your group any favors by swelling the membership numbers because they won't engage much or at all with your content and FB's algorithm will think your posts aren't getting a good engagement and not appear as often or high on members' feeds.

Very valid point. It's essential to add questions that need to be answered before letting someone join the group, but the bots are getting better at answering them. We've had to change the questions to make it more obvious whether it's a bot or not.

That's been our experience here (in Canberra). No interest or intent to support our "community"; just there to exploit financially, to the detriment of our local suppliers.

And, don't get me started on the T-Shirt spam... (well, I guess you did. )

hate to say it but it's only the beginning... as costs come down expect bots to flood every single public forum regardless of what type of questions or wall you put up. Open AI thinks the solution is to give every human what they call "World ID" which identifies them as a human. But of course who would trust a private company who's founder has repeatedly lied about their intentions with their privacy.

But the fact alone that Open AI is thinking about a solution to this problem indicates to me that they are anticipating this problem to get significantly worse than it is at the moment.
