My New Years break was cut short on day one by something that considered my foot part of the food chain. I was suspended in the water positioning myself for a water start when my foot made contact with something. I initially thought I'd made contact with the sea floor,but realised something was amiss when the sea floor was coming with me as I raised my leg along with the onset of pain![]()
It wouldn't have been so bad if the next few days weren't such fantastic sailing conditions. ![]()
Looking at the bite pattern it has needle-like teeth about 1cm apart with a jaw spacing about an inch across. The local folk in Mt Gambier, SA suggest a Conger Eel was the culprit. These suckers can grow up to 1.5m.
For many years I have touted the phrase: "They don't eat me, so I won't eat them". That now appears flawed so perhaps I'll start eating seafood.
Those crabs sure leave some nasty cuts too...I'm gonna start wearing booties sometimes too but I have some really thin ones like socks that might be ok.
