Thumbs Up

My New Years break was cut short on day one by something that considered my foot part of the food chain. I was suspended in the water positioning myself for a water start when my foot made contact with something. I initially thought I'd made contact with the sea floor, but realised something was amiss when the sea floor was coming with me as I raised my leg along with the onset of pain

It wouldn't have been so bad if the next few days weren't such fantastic sailing conditions.

Looking at the bite pattern it has needle-like teeth about 1cm apart with a jaw spacing about an inch across. The local folk in Mt Gambier, SA suggest a Conger Eel was the culprit. These suckers can grow up to 1.5m.

For many years I have touted the phrase: "They don't eat me, so I won't eat them". That now appears flawed so perhaps I'll start eating seafood.

Hoping to get a few sessions in at Beachport in a few weeks, hope those little suckers arent down there when we are there!

Those crabs sure leave some nasty cuts too...I'm gonna start wearing booties sometimes too but I have some really thin ones like socks that might be ok.
