Recent online shoping has me thinking... How can I keep my hard earned in house?

If buying two new boards, this amounts to a considerable turnover for a local operator. Not talking about buying a JP or F2 from xyz dealer. Sure these dealers are local, but they sell international products. I want to buy gear from the Australians who make the boards. I want to support the Australian businesses competing with the international brands. The guys who make the boards!!
Being a recreational sailor, I'm not going to notice the difference between 2009 & 2010 models.

Can an Australian company make a quality high performance board recognised globally?

Hang on a minute...... What about resale??????

If such equipment exists, will it hold value, or even sell on the 2nd hand market?

Or this asking too much?

Dan.

severne sails

Would be interesting to know for every dollar spent on a sail like a Severne, how much actually stays in Australia.

When it comes down to it we do live in an internation economy so perhaps it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the tips. The choice just got a bit more difficult.

This is huge consideration when buying gear these days for me - sail it once a lose $1000 bucks of retail prices, own for a year and lose $1500 - for some brands you can't even sell them - we just don't have a big enough market - especially in SA.

I consider the Aussie purchase all the time - but we need to support the local industry which also includes the retailers - and most of us have the gear we ride dictated by what is available locally and we can sell 2nd hand easily

Boards

OES
SSD
Manta
Dweller Designs
Nude
Riders
Blue Juice

All making nice customs in Aus (Apologies if I missed somebody)

Sails

Severne and KA, Australian owned and designed, made in China.

Booms and bases ect - Hydrodynamix

I think it is great to support these guy,s if possible, and that is the decision I have made, but it not as straightforward as that. There are also a great bunch of retailers and importers that need support as well, who,s profits stay here and who employ Australian Staff.

So what I am doing now is supporting the local custom builders by designing boards and getting them to build them for me.
I help out KA with design work, then all my other equiptment and accessories comes from local retailers.
Sort of trying to spead the Love!!! Bad joke.but this way I am happy that I am supporting the local industry and australian jobs as well as I can.

how much of your total spend is windsurfing kit?

Why not buy Australian food (potentially fresher) and Australian beer (better than shipping foreign water)? It will make more of a difference than $2000 on a board

Fair play if you really want to support a custom dealer but resale is poor...
