I've just bought a brand new windsurfer package which I haven't yet taken out. Putting it together this afternoon, realised that I have some issues with the Aeron Tendon Base fitting the mast extension and the mast.
Not to sure what specifications I should be looking at, to ensure they work altogether. Does anyone have any advice?
Here's some photos of the bits and peices I have. I know that the mast is a pretty good quality mast, but seems to be too small to fit the push pin tendon base and the mast extension. I'm also guessing that the mast extension which has a very small hole in the bottom is more suited to a different style of base tendon.
Hi Mobi, no the one in the avatar is a 1970's windsurfer that my father in law owns. It got me out on the water last season to try windsurfing and I fell in love with the sport, so much so, that I needed to buy something that was a little lighter and more advanced than the 70's stuff. My new gear is brand new, except that I bought it from an auction house so have had no professional advice, they also matched up the peices to create a package. I'm thinking that the advice they had on putting the package together was not so good.
Wow that's a bit mixed up.
It looks like the universal joint (Aeron tendon base) that was in the box doesn't match what the box says...
You've got a "Chinook Cup", and you need a "Euro Pin".
You were also given a Standard Diameter extension, and you need a Skinny extension.
Take the universal joint and your extension back to where you bought it, and ask them to exchange them with what you need.
Where did you buy these from?
[Edit]: Ahh now I see why it's so mixed up. You can sort everything out by buying one of these:http://www.surfsailaustralia.com.au/showProduct/Windsurfing/Mast+Extensions/348935/Chinook+Aluminium+Rdm+Cup+Style+Medium+Mast+Extension
The North Ratchet extension is nice, but you can't use it with that mast or universal joint.
They've given you the wrong mast base. Should have been europin not cup type.
The pin style is shown on the aeron box hence the confusion.
Just check that the cup doesn't have a quick release pin on the side which could reveal a europin in the center. (I think that is the way aeron is going this year)
Good luck with everything.
Boy you can type fast Nebs
and you are far more observant than me too.
binstar you will have some nice kit once its sorted.Take the lot back to the dealer and get them to rig it up in their shop. They should have done it anyway I reckon.
I could be wrong but i think binstar bought it from an auction house, not a dealer.
Does the extension even fit an RDM? I have a feeling the only things compatible are the the mast and sail.
If you can't change them, you may find someone on here willing to exchange/swap them.
Good luck!
Hi Binstar,
Perhaps your best be is to take the parts you have to a windsurfing shop and ask them to give you a hand and then be prepared to purchase whatever bits and pieces you need to get your rig assembled.
They may be able to do some swapping of parts to get one complete base, extension and mast package. I'm not familiar with RD masts but I think you can use them a normal cup and an RDM extension. So perhaps all you need to purchase is a different mast extension, one that suits the chinook cup and the RDM mast.
Sorry before. I was just being smart when you said you bought some new gear but had a picture of 30 year old stuff in your avatar.
UJ doesn't fit the extension, and the Extension does fit the mast.
Good to see you went for Maui Sails, there is hope....

Hi All,
Thanks very much for your advice and help. Have got it all sorted now through one of the local windsurf shops. They have exchanged the base joint and mast extension and have shown me how to rig it up, so I'm set for the long weekend!
Mobydisc -sorry.... not yet up with the windsurf banter as I'm a newbie... so apologies for being so daft.
And yes I bought this from an auction house with the liquidation of Glascraft Marines in SA, new kit for an absolute steal!![]()
Well done Binstar, glad to hear you got it sorted.
Hope to see some posts from you soon on how you went on the water ![]()
