Hi! I've been renting/borrowing up till now and got some extra cash this season to get my own stuff... only problem is I have no idea how much anything is really worth. Found a guy with this set up, says it's been used handful of times (6) and bought last year, from the pics it all looks pretty crisp. Please help!

Whats included:
-115L Pacific Free Force Windsurf Board 115
-6.5m Chinook Powerglide Sail
-4.7m Chinook Powerglide Sail
-Chinook Powerglide Boom
-Chinook Epoxy Mast 460
-Chinook Epoxy Mast 400
-28cm Chinook Mast Extension Base
-Chinook Mast Base 1 Bolt Tendon
-Chinook Competition Slalom Boom 152-214
-Dakine Hybrid NRG Mens Windsurf Harness
-Hydrotech Freeride Powerbox Windsurf fin 35cm
-Dakine Primo Windsurf Footstrap x4
-Dakine Adjustable Windsurf Harness Lines

He's asking $2500 US, opinions?

Right?? I think it's overpriced but I literally have no idea about value for this stuff... any idea what a reasonable offer would be?

Two spar great that you are getting into it.
How old is the gear?
have you looked here on SB to buy kit?
where are you? Any WS shops around or where in the nearest WS shop.
Do you have a WS mate to help find & buy?

When I googled I got '05 model on board but guy says bought last year so idk. Haven't looked on here much I don't know anyone to check with so I'd rather get a full kit just so I know everything can sail together then upgrade as I go, there is a shop I'm making a trip down to in a few days that has used gear too

google is your friend, I saw there was a shop offering the board heavily discounted, and also selling the same sails, start from there.

This probably won't help much ,but I just paid $2200 for a new board ,no fin included ..

you are getting a fair good deal more gear for your buck .but knock a couple of hundred off .

if you both walk away with a smile on ya face its a good deal .

Age age age. Try to photo the gear and post on here again - the collective brains trust on her is priceless, and a picture paints a thousand words. The gear has taken a quantum leap in about the last 5-7 years. Older boards are no where as versatile and user friendly as newer gear, some were good some not, some easy sail some not.The type of fin it requires is a good indication of age and quality of the board, tuttle or powerbox are pretty much the go anything else is lower quality and older style (except for wavesailing).

People here are super helpful and free with advice and opinions. It seems a reasonable price to me for the quantity of gear BUT and a big but totally depends on age and condition, how heavy is the board, is it full of water? Is it soft under the foot pads? Is there damage? Old masts were a different curve to newer ones so don't suit newer sails. Older booms were not as wide at the front - so same thing don't suit newer deep draft sails. Do you have any mates that are more in the loop with gear who could look at it for you? The guy may genuinely believe that is the value of the gear but it may not be, its like anything - perceived value and actual worth can be wildly different. Ive bought gear that I paid too much for (impulse) and the stuff that was a bargain, Ive also sold gear that I felt was not worth quite what I was getting and also sold other gear for well below what I would have liked to get for it (desparation).

PS a bit of google work puts the gear as at least '05 (very old on windsurf terms but still usable) and a package kit sold through one shop, so perhaps not the most cutting edge gear for the time even, the sails look pretty basic and a style that has been well and truly superseded.

If it is indeed a board over 5yrs old, I think its a rip off unless the rig is brand new. Chinook masts and sails are not expensive...... 5y/o freeride board in good condition is what, $500?

Twispar its kinda hard for us here as we don't have that board brand here, I'm basing what I say off goolging prices for Chinook masts and sails and they are pretty rare here too. You might be better off on a US forum (and maybe get local offers of free cheap stuff too)

But agree with the last poster- I googled and a full rig is under $1000
chinooksailing.com/collections/power-glide/products/power-glide-rig-epoxy-fiberglass-mast

so you could get all that stuff brand new, and that board (which is old) for $2500.
His stuff is used, it devalues as soon as it walks out the door so i reckon its worth more like half what he wants.

has anyone asked how much you weigh ??
i weigh about 240 lbs/109 kilos or less (hopefully)
as I sail in light winds (mostly), 117 liters is my SMALLEST board
at 69 cm wide, it can probably handle a 7 meter sail
and the-house seems to suggest from 6 - 9.5 meters
patience is a requirement for wind surfing
in Australia has spring not barely started
keep looking, chatting, etc
good luck

Buy a kite but if you are set on the retro sports , go to your local tip, heeeaaappps of old boards and sails there for $50, seriously.

I think if gear is newish , ( under 10 years ) , in perfect Nic , and exactly what you want , half price is the max you want to spend .
We have the buying power because windsurfing is out and kiting is in.
Windsurfing is harder and better than kiting.
Saying that you should be able to buy perfect second hand modern sailing gear for one third retail.
Ask other sailers , or forums , as to what you need .
Tip , under estimate your skills , go big board small sail combo.
Enjoy ,
Then you will have your own opinion and your hooked.
Welcome to windsurfing

Why in earth would he want to buy a kite , he obviously still has life in him.
He has skills he wants to explore , he wants to smile , ( kiters have that gland removed ) , and even with a seat harness , helmet and non matching colours has more groove than to wear shorts outside the wetsuit.

Hey loto , I'm confused , you seem to have the happiness of a windsurfer yet you kite.
Its OK , free yourself , break from your boostin mates , get rid of the full length suitin up mirror and down to earth enjoy yourself .
And you can kit up for $50.

Was serious about checking the local tip though, was dumping some trees Id cut down recently and couldn't believe all the boards and sails they had in there for sale that people had tossed out.

Since he quotes $2500 in US funds. You would be better served to post this on the US IWindsurf forum .

The board, pacific, the sails Chinook and masts , had a low price to start. I would value the board at $300 each sail 150, the other bits aren't expensive, epoxy masts say less than a 100, more like 60. As a package it offers 2 sails. Highly overvalued as a package.

For me to consider this stuff it would have to be really cheap, these all considered it was in good shape.

I dont see this as a 1000 dollar outfit. Maybe $850. It does off a unit, but what you have then would be difficult to resale .

You're getting ripped off. How much do you weigh? What's your level? Where do you sail? If you put that money towards a windsurfing holiday with good instruction, you'll be further ahead and you'll actually know what kind of gear you need.
