Just short quiz how long it takes you road trip to your everyday sailing spot ?
For me it is about 15 minutes one way to Broadwater ( GC)
Which is really good if I forget something, still worth make one more trip home to pickup harness or extension ![]()
Interesting will be to know who have the shortest trip ( luckiest guy
) and the longest ( the most determined ![]()
my local is about 7 minutes.
but i'll drive as far as needed to be honest. have driven 8 hours to go for a sail. some guys that come to burrum drive 2 days to get there.
it's Australia, it's a big place and there are some great spots with great people a few hours up the road.
From driveway to the local rigging area - about 6min
From driveway to the local watering hole - about 1min (not that i drive there
)
Coast 6min, river 20min.
I grew up one street back from the beach which resulted in many school days skipped and Yr 11 repeated. Wish I'd skipped more school...too young to know better
45 min to Queen's Beach. 45 to Wynnum/Manly. 50-60 Wello. 60+ to VP. 70+ Bribie. 70+ to the Train. 80+ to Caloundra.
It's mostly Wello, then VP, and now much more at Queens.
30seconds from home to my gear at beach, drag detensioned sail out from previous session or rig bigger or smaller. If the former can be on the water within 10 minutes. 15 if I have to rig from start. Of course I don't have the luxury of any flat water though but don't need to unpack & pack gear into car every time. I have to say I am pretty lucky to have this.
PS man it so windy here atm the house is shaking.
Safety Bay is about 3.5 kilometers by road, takes about 4 minutes to drive it . Added bonus is it is on my traffic light free drive home from work route so I have to check it out even if I am not sailing that day.
Similar to Notwal. 40 to 60 min depending on which part of Morton Bay I go to. I sail mainly at Wello which is 45mn away in good traffic. Trips home to pick up missing gear is not an option. I go through a mental check list before I leave home. I have to be pretty regimented about where I store my gear at home and in the wagon. Sailing would not be possible without decent wind forecasting like Seabreeze.
About 45-60...........seconds depending on how long it takes the garage door to go up!
Every second counts! ![]()

No damage hopefully, and the water state calms enough for you to get out![]()
Watched a 7 report for Airlie Beach seeing a couple of kites out in the back shot. Shelia went typical media poo pooing the kiters. Failed to notice hardly a breath of air ruffling the trees or the reporters hair. Somebody needed to take her out the back for a good slap![]()
Oh topic, yes.
Beach 20 mins, least favoured, wife is concerned with bities in the water![]()
River, 45 mins which is favoured spot.
Best spot for huge expanse 1.5 hours, but worth it at Mandurah.
Wow, I considered myself quite fortunate but there are some people totally spoilt here.
For me my normal spots are between 5 and 10 minutes away, Pookipa I drive past on my way home from work which is great.
Sandy Point 2 hours drive not that I have been taking advantage of that much lately.

Awesome. Where is this? Love that you have both waves and speed options so close.
100m walk from front door to beach access. Usually I then see Sausage a couple of hundred metres further up the beach rigging up, that's if he isn't already on the water. Hard to take I know.

Well I have it tough. I have to drive at least 15 minutes, but I am spoilt for choice...
15 minutes to Melville, where I go if I'm short of time.
15 minutes to Majestic Point
20 minutes to Pelican Point and another 10 minutes to find a parking spot! (I don't go there much)
25 minutes to Pt Walter
35 Minutes to Safety Bay
55 minutes to Coodanup
60 minutes to Novara
65 minutes to Liptons
1hr 30 to Australind or Yoyo's, and about the same to Lancelin in the other direction.

Mineral,
Been a crazy night of wind and 4.8metre high tide this morning combined with the storm surge had sea coming up over main beachfront. Lucky we didn't actually have cyclonic winds although 40knots can do some damage still.

Doesn't look like that today Hargs. Wonder if we still have a beach this afternoon.
My launch spot just north of that tree that is usually way up in the dunes.
yeah it's pretty wild out there mate!!!
Why are you guys watching rather than sailing? I heard Queenslanders were a bit soft....

It's funny - I don't regret skipping school at all. I can still distinctly remember on tube I got at D'bah.
And the times I got caught I got two days suspension (more surfing). This only confirmed to me school was, in some ways, really stupid and not for me.
___________
20 minutes - 75 minutes to the bay, depending on utterly random traffic.
