Am wanting to plan a windsurfing holiday for 2 weeks in Fiji with my girl at the beginning of September. I think the best time to go is June /July but cant get this time off. Has anyone been there in Sept and was the wind any good. Am really keen to go but dont want to go if the wind is not reliable. Should i be looking for another location?? Any Suggestions

Cheers

I went to Fiji in May at the start of the windy season. You should be still ok in September. I went to Sailboarding Safaris top of the main island. Warren was instructing and I had a ball. Learnt heaps. Gear was ordinary then but I think he has just scored a JP Australia or NP Test centre status so should be a great place to try out new equipment.

Hi there.

Safari Lodge is hosting the Sth Pacific Conference for Neil Pryde / JP / Cabrinha in June this year and will be launching a Sth Pacific Test / Demo Center for 2010 model gear by the end of June!!

Boards range is from the 74 Super Sport right through to the larger light wind models - PRO EDITIONS, Carbon. Rigs are from 4.2m through to 7.8m

This is the first of its kind in the Pacific and compares with Egypt, Greece etc. Finaly there is a top class location with top class equipment accessible for all Aussie and Kiwi sailors to go too....

PM me if you would like more information, or check out the website...
thanks

If the current political crisis there doesn't improve I'd be staying well away!

Hi

The current political issues are reasonably simple in their underlying issues....it is merely due process the recent political manouvering...so i'm not worried at all!

We had 40 guests over Easter and they certainly had no problems, and i am not expecting any issues involving Tourists in Fiji....the locals are just too lovely!!

We have great winds and warm waters....lovely for a winter splash.....and now we have fantastic equipment for guesta to ride!!! Even more fun!

Tony had beetter watch out in August, cos i'll have had a few months on the new gear so will be highly tuned when he comes....and the GPS Speed team assault of the Fiji Reef is due to take place......bring it on!@

See you...

Just guessing Warren, is this the speed strip you've got in mind? That's a nautical mile on the yellow line. Can you hitch a ride on a boat to get there?

Hi Ian

Yes that is exactly the reef in question. Tony from Ralin at Bendigo is again coming back to Fiji with Windsurfers the last two weeks of August and first two weeks of September.

I took Tony up there last year in one of our boats and i chased him down the run in one of my support boats! It was realy fun, except his waterproof camera bag wasn't so waterproof as he discovered later as he wanted to film the run....

He now has a GPS and wants to do a GPS run down the reef which is a perfect bear away. We did about 2 nautical miles with Tony..it was an awesome run!!

Keen to do it again...and i think JP are releasing a new speed board, so i cant wait to burn it up....

All the new 2010 Neil Pryde / JP Australia gear will be opened at the FIJI PRO Center we are opening on June 20th. I can't wait.....and i am sure clients wanting quality rental gear will also appreciate the new additions to Safari Lodge.

The wind cranks in FIJI right through to October and November so SEPT has been great in past years.......ring your GPS and lets all have fun!

I have so wanted to work out how to post that google picture of the reef, looks cool.

I am banking on starting the run further back just off the bottom of the picture, so we should get over 2 NM of run but some will not be a straight run as we follow the reef line.

maybe shaping up to be a JP V's F2 Missile blast off.

I still think my 06 5.8 Koncept will out power any lame NP rigs Warren might be using.

PS the pic seems to tell me that we should be running about 120 degrees off the wind and will pick the 25-30kt days to do it.

Hi Guys

I was up in Fiji last weekend, checking out some other stuff and managed to get out on a boat to check out the proposed August Speed Course sessions...

Tony is right at about 120 degrees....and the Photo Ian posted is dead acurate.

Tony will need a little further run-up as the old formula Force = Mass X Accelleration means he wil need a little more run up to overcome his inertia. I think he may be right at 2 nautical miles......I'll wait for him at the 1 mile flag.....

It will be a fun time....

Regardless, we are looking forward to a great windy season...warm water...

Rgds
