My Starboard Carve is slippery in front of the straps and I was looking for a stick on pad solution when I came a across Hexa Traction. I don't want to cover the board artwork with a solid grip pad or spray on a deck grip so the clear pads look like a good option. Has anyone used them over a non completely smooth surface such as a windsurfer deck and are the up to providing traction for the forces encountered while sailing?

On the website, they recommend using alcohol to clean the surface before applying the hexaTracktion pads. I doubt very much if the pads will stay stuck on non slip decks, all sticky stuff need nice flat clean surfaces to work properly.

Maybe it would be cheaper and quicker to mask off the area just in front of the foot pads and carefully sand the existing non slip until you reach the graphics, and apply a mixture of acrylic powder dust and clear resin. Using a small roller gives a nice even and clear finish, you'll still see the existing graphics and it will look way better and outlast stick on pads.

Personally I'd do the whole deck, but I don't see why you can't just do the area in front of the foot pads if you don't fancy doing the entire deck.

Just my 2 cents worth

I tried some skateboard non slips, and they didn't last long.
Get a professional to regrip your deck. Much better, and not expensive.
I had it done on 2 boards and very happy with their work.

IDK about the Hexa pads, but I have found that a lot of the sticky backing on other products sticks great at first. but eventually turns to slime, allowing parts to seperate, and making for a major PITA to clean up and replace!
I wonder if certain plastics and resins emit some sort of gas over time which attacks the adhesive? Maybe someone on here might know more about this?
With no way to predict where this might happen, I now avoid sticky-back products altogether.

I just keep seeing boards where it has yellowed, can you recommend a spray on grip that doesn't yellow?

If you mean really yellow, thats epoxy. A non yellowing epoxy is available
Boatcraft pacific in Qld sell a little sample pack thats cheap. Have to specify non yellowing hardener though. And its roller on....

Or paint as per factory, any auto clear with a matting agent to flatten it off. Real stuff not SCA or Repco cans.

People who have used that Monster traction in a spray can really rate it, ive never used it. Pretty sure Surf Sail Aust stocks it

Yeah that easy. Before you go even there give it a good clean and see if it improves grip. Most times the gunk building up over is the problem.
