G'day !
If you have been to new cal, you know Anse Vata beach, the south pacific windsurf mecca !
Layback style, tradewinds, friendly locals (me !), grass to rig just in front of the water, plenty of room on the lawn to rest, have a picinic, play with the kids....
That's about to disappear in march thanks to our Mayor, she wants to build an esplanade, remove all the grass, cut down 190 coconut trees. Total disaster !!
An FB group has been set to help fight, transform the project, not all is bad : bicycle and running tracks are great, unfortunately they won't even be separated, just part of the footpath (accidents just waiting to happen) (see pic below)
We are trying to be heard by the council but so far to no avail.
there are already more than 4900 members on the group, (for a population of above 200 000).
If you are keen on helping us please join the group and send an invite to your FB friends list.
I do understand it can seem far fetched but aussies are our first tourist group over here ! Maybe the mayor will see this too ! Numbers can make the difference !
You can tick the "no notification box" so you don't receive updates everytime someone posts a picture !!!
Many thanks in advance !!!

Has New Cal got a Windsurfing Association? if you guys do have one get whoever is in charge to make a Deputation to Council voicing your concerns and what you believe would be a better fit for all users.
I've been on Council for over 3 years as well as the Regional Development Assessment Panel and believe it or not we do listen but you need to present your case with all the information on what a balanced alternative outcome might look like.
Thanks for the input Choco !
Yes, they have asked to be heard, but no.
Thing is Mayor is focusing on windsurfers but all the users (families/ swimmers/ walkers/ cyclist) are opposed.
Hopefully with numbers we will be heard.
And guess what will happen to the beach when the next cyclone hits ( storm surge ). Has an environmental impact study been undertaken?
OMG that is a disaster. I learnt to windsurf off that beach when I was about 14. Seawalls should be banned, take a look at what they have done on Collaroy beach on the Northern Beaches Sydney. Complete mess. Surely the Tourism bodies at New Cal would be against this happening. It's one of the cool things able Anse Vata green lawn, coconut trees and beach. Will jump on your facebook link and share.
