Kocked the mrs up for the 1st time = last time for trip away just the 2 of us (make that 2 & 1/2 already)

Off to NYC for few days to tick the box for the lady and looking at a few days in hawaii...

Still need to accomodate her so found this deal http://m.myholidaycentre.com.au/package-info.aspx?id=45117

Basically 4 nights waikiki, 3 niights maui, 3 nights kauai car and hotel included.... 6k for package before spending money...

Any insights on ease of sailin? Certainly maui and would want to sail at kauai as well to make it worth it.. reading up waikiki is on the wrong side... Would want to basically hire off beach, not bring my own kit...

Going mid to late march....

For 6 days is it worth it? Are there cheaper options? Fiji or something?

Cheers guys

waikiki sucks !
goldcoast on steriods - crowded tons of traffic - ok if you want to hit the bars and restaurants.
if you wersingle it would probably be awesome :P
shopping is ok but a lot of it is boutique stuff and expensive.
spent 2 nights there and couldnt wait to get to maui.

will happily never stay there again.
in maui we generally stay in specksbeach estate.

unless you wife is prepared to sit around on a beach while you are out sailing find a place on the coast on north shore so you can sail from your front door. the hassle it saves from not having to pack a car full of gear and have a nagging wife wanting to go home is priceless.

spreks is 190 a night for a 1 bed studio or 300 for a 2 bed apart.
matt pritchard will deliver a board and 2 sail2 to your door step for about 300 a week.
will need to hire a car for maui.

Roar you are on the money.

I went on my first trip to Hawaii last year and am going back in mid April.

Waikiki is expensive.... Everything. It looks lovely at night. Great for shopping.

Maui is lovely. But you will need a car.

If you want high end stay at the four seasons and drive to windsurfing each day (35mins).

If you want a beach shack stay at coconutcovemaui.com/

If you want a cute hotel in an authentic village stay at the Paia inn.

Get In touch with Matt Pritchard. He will book everything for you. Hassle free. pritchardwindsurfing.com/ treat yourself to a one on one lesson. You are worth it. I'm getting four days with him one on one in April.

Staying on Oahu is no so bad if you get a hire car. It's not so big to drive around. It's an easy drive up to Kailua where there are places to hire kit and the beach is nice.

Thanks guys, Roar I went with your adivice, booked in maui at specksbeach estate., little bit if a shock when i found out 195 was usd and there is a 13% tax but still turned out cheaper than the hotels... Will book some equipment through Matt p as well, giddy up!

Thanks for the ideas guys - had a great time!

Stayed at Sprecks and hired from Matt, location was great and so was the gear - Matt delivered right to the location which made it super simple.

My 2 cents for beginners - Bring booties - the reason its flatter here is because of the reef and because of the reef I have holes all through my feet from beach starts and walking the kit through the water (beaches are sandy but rocks are hidden just below water line)

Take a day and take your kit to Kanaha Beach - its a 10 min drive and you will have a car anyway to get around Maui - here the flat water extends for at least 200 m (Sprecks was probably 50 - 80)

Good times - Ginno
