Looking at finally getting a waist harness (been in a seat on the river), want to start coastal/bump jump and then small wave sailing

Not near any shops, and know its a good idea to try harnesses first:

-So is it worth a few hours drive to try a few on, or should I just order a reputable brand from a shop without trying it on first?

-Looking at Dakine Nexus and T3, any tips?

-Do you have to buy the bar seperately? What size bar do you buy (noticed on one shop there were 3 sizes)

-What belt system does everyone use? Power belt, quick release etc? Is this system what makes the harness either fixed or sliding? Which is better (sliding/fixed)?

So basically what harness do you wear, what belt system, is it good?

Btw, i'm a skinny build (6'1" 70kg) if that helps at all, 32 waist so M size harness I reckon

Cheers for any tips

Definitely try them on and hang of off something as well.

You wouldn't buy shoes without trying them on

Cheers man, will do (geez i'll be trying alot of ya gear out, thanks again)

Want to minimise the amount of time i'll be waiting for delivery of gear, whilst finally on the coast near water, and minimise driving to shops hours away

So that'll be great thanks

Should be able to get want you want within a day or two as long as it in stock, but I reckon you would be pretty safe with a T3 small if you wanted to hunt one down sooner, might be worth a look around.

Sort of on topic, but relating to a long thread a while ago, are new harnesses coming out with a quick release (ie/ panic button) system?

Thanks Dism, are those NP bars compatible with non NP harnesses?

Just looked at the link again, doesn't say those quick release bars are NP or whatever. I assumed they were because they were under a NP harness, but then they list other harnesses. Are the bars a generic thing that fits all harnesses? (got flogged around a bit today, including a tricky unhooking experience (under sail in waist deep water!)

Ive got a quick release on a prolimit which works fine but the bar is fixed and cannot slide, after using the T3 that slides back and forth it is so much more comfortable, had thought about changing the bar over to quick release on the T3 but don't want to lose the sliding freedom so I havn't done it.
Still in two minds, like the idea of get out sh^t quick and like the freedom of sliding,
Question, do they make a quick release that still slides, I couldn't really tell when I looked at the dakine site, that was a few months ago, it might of changed since, spose I should stop rambling and look again.

i just retro fitted my pryde Wave pro harness with their new quick release spreader. It seems really well made and solid. After having a scare getting trapped I'm feeling a bit more confident of getting out of there in a hurry if it comes down to that.
I would recommend having a look at these things, the design is good. It only takes one experience of getting trapped under the sail to get you thinking of alternatives to the strap and buckle thang.
I think you can see these spreader bars on the NP website under harnesses etc.

Wormy, why do you like the sliding spredder bar on the T3's?

Ive had a sliding bar for my whole sailing career (1year) and im not a huge fan!

I still think that a quick relese for a windsurfing harness is a silly idea!

Just anything you can break!

you havn't tried a fixed?
sliding allows you to face more towards the way you are travelling.
I thought fixed was alright till I changed, sliding has so much more freedom of movement.

Hrrm, the sizing, sliding/not sliding and quick-release/non-quick-release bits i'm not sure on yet

My current old seat has a buckle that is quick release, so thinking towards the quick release, but might get both bars

Cheers for all the info all
