Hi all... Centre choco fin with cracks both sides. Should I put it in a coffin or play on? New-ish fin.

If its the centre fin (on a multi fin setup) id just play on, see what happens. If its a single fin setup, probably not.
That looks to be just the paint coating if you are worried you could sand back to see how far it goes
If RTM's break anywhere its right there so I think its going to fail. Agree with Elmo to sand it back and see if its just a big flex caused paint cracking or if the laminate is cracked. But Given others I've seen I suspect its the latter.
Yep.. the deeper I go with the sanding the more I think it's cooked.. I'll keep going though. Could be lucky. Thanks for thoughts

Is it the usage, construction method or construction quality that makes it vulnerable?
RTM is weaker
G10 all the way for me, without question.
The ones I've seen fail are either due to the moulded on base (the fin is not all not one piece) and at least with G10 you can see it is
Or, if failed like the above pic it is in the same spot near enough, and from what I've seen - dry glass in the middle. Resin is not making it there in the infusion step perhaps.
As an aside, they also fare a lot worse in reef hits, tip splits badly
Sanding back shows up a couple of little air bubbles.. or is that part of the base to fin connection? Anyway, I'll keep using it and keep my harness handy in case a bit of back footstrap slogging is required!

Thanks for the explanation. ![]()
