Don't you hate it when your significant other makes you feel guilty. Some people take pleasure in eliciting guilt. My SO has raised the skill to a high art. In this case it's about money. Its always either about money or ducking out on family stuff to go sailing.

Well I broke my 430 some time ago. I have been making do with a 400 on max extension, a sorry state of affairs I'm sure you'll agree. I recently bought a second hand sail that requires a 430 skinny, no ifs, buts, or substitutes because it has cams. So after months of deprivation I finally raided the joint account and spent $780 to replace it. The SO checks the bank account this morning and says "Well it looks like I'll have to postpone buying the new wheel chair".

God cripples can be so inconsiderate. KEVIN, HELP. hmmmm... maybe I could rent out the kids...

You need to organise your financial affairs so any significant windsurfing purchase does not come to attention until there is an appropriate time to reveal the deed. This should be possible unless its a single income family and your SO is earning the money.

Otherwise consider getting your SO into windsurfing. This too will solve such issues. When you want to have a romantic sail with the SO, you will need two masts. In any case if your SO needs the wheel chair so badly then perhaps check out eBay. You can buy one for less than $200.
