So incredibly hard to predict what will happen in the next 24 hours let alone the end of July.
As much as it may seem unlikely now who knows what 4 weeks will bring. I am certainly "retaining the right to remain hopeful" and am ready to pull the trigger and go at late notice to see the event on if its safe and possible to do so.

No real answer here or help sorry but I really just wanted to 100% throw my support behind the organizers of this absolutely magic event and say if you can, Ill be there

At the last AWA meeting about 6 weeks ago, the word was that Green Island would NOT be on this year.

I will contact Ian and let youse know.

The 2020 situation. Perfectly isolated.
Isolation. As only we know how...

The short story:

Sadly and unavoidably, we don't feel it's appropriate, practical or reasonable to continue with planning the 2020 GI Nats.

The longer explanation :

Safety and certainty for our participants, competitors, organisers and supporters are paramount at the best of times in our exciting and challenging event location.

The long range planning, commitment and organisation required by both event organisers and competitors represents an immeasurable range of factors that don't (no matter how we try) seem realistic for 2020 under the massive health, economic and logistical uncertainty/s that go along with COVID19. Our event tradewind window starts to thin around August onwards, so considering an interim 2020 postponement doesn't add to the certainty. And may (in the end ) only delay the agony. We're also mindful of the credibility of the event as a National Championship and how the current situation will affect many in different ways. We want everyone to be able to commit and participate. In full confidence.

After 7 remarkable and outstandingly successful events, we hesitate to make the decision. But at the same time have to be bold and confident that overall, all (known) factors - and all participants - considered, this is the best decision under unprecedented circumstances.

We thank everyone for their ongoing support and understanding.

Our commitment to GI Nats and the enthusiasm of our supporters and participants is stronger than ever.

Our focus shifts to 2021. See you on the reef.

Shame , but makes perfect sense...

Great news for Qld crew this is our back yard, so it's still available (hopefully) later in the year for a windsurfing/ mountain bike/ warm winter tropical adventure, we don't even need to fly up there really, as it is derivable in two days from SEQ

Flip side of Covid is that it may force a lot of Aussies to start exploring our own back yard a bit more in the short/medium term :)
