Hello, bit of a beginner question here. I have an injury and have made a sail to sail on my sup with. The current shape is one long PVC pipe and in the middle is attached another pvp pipe similar to a boom. On the end of the boom like pipe I attached a makeshift two makeshift sails that form a triangle all the way up to the base and top of the king PvP pole. The long pvc pole is about 3m.
anyway I there's a fin box insterests in the centre of the sup where a digger board would probably go. A longboard inside there.
tried going down cudgen creek the fat bit today. On one section I managed to get up a reasonable speed and go upwind. This was on what would be my forehand for goofy footer. On the other side thoigh I just could t get it.
If the wind isn't strong enough, like I mean you're barely moving, is there t not possible to go upwind?
Try and get a centerboard for your sup and it will be easier, but generally to go upwind you need to have a very efficient rig and aerodynamic sail shape, your hacked rig might not be ideal. If you cannot get a centerboard try and press on the windward rail and tilt the board at an angle to avoid drifting downwind
That was my first thought too
its not connected to the board it's just a drag u downwind setup.
but you've deciddd to wing now Gibbo.?

If it's a sup you should always be able to go upwind reasonably well even in very light winds by railing the leeward edge down which transforms the SUP into a longkeeler. Might not be very stable though with a makeshift setup. If there is enough wind the keep the rig reasonably upright you can let yourself hang off the harness lines vertically like a monkey while your rear foot pushes the leeward edge of the SUP into the water. If you have little wind and have to support the rig then you stand really close to the rig - front fist almost on your chin, body turned slightly to the front of the board standing upright. Frontfoot is in front of the mast, rearfoot is past the centreline on the leeward side and pushes the leeward side slightly down.
