Hi - first post here. I'm trying to get back into windsurfing after 20 years (used to sail the bay and surf at Urquaharts Bluff). Have put together second hand gear and have sailed the bay (Point Ormond and Altona) in the south easterlies this week. I am riding an old Neil Pryde slalom board, circa early 90's I think. Finding the bay chop difficult - could some one recommend a board, will mostly be used in the bay?

Reading the posts it seems a general purpose board maybe around 100 to 105 litres would be appropriate. Any suggestions very welcome.

thanks

Any board made in the last 10 years will be much more forgiving than 90's board, but for more specific info, how much do you weigh, and how much wind will you be going out in?

ah yeah, weigh 70 kgs, would be out in anything upwards from 15 knots. Lets say mostly aiming for 20 to 25 knots.

Given your weight I think you should aim for a freeride or freestyle wave (FSW) board in the 90-95 litre range.

A freeride board will be more suited to flat water/chop. Modern boards are shorter and wider than what you would have used.

Agreed. I'm your weight +2kg and usually sail at Pt Ormond too. A freeride or FSW board is great for the 1 metre chop we usually get there in 15-25kts. I sail an 86 litre Fanatic Frewave in up to 25kts but it gets too bouncy in anything over that.

Plus you can use a FSW type board in the surf.

Tabou Rocket 105 - terrific bay board. I am 75kgs and use this most times I sail. Up to 30 knots
