I am so close to getting this, so close. So this goes out to all you people saying its the easy as.

Cross cross on wind, taking off downwindish hand way back down the boom, sheet in and look back start to rotate nicely, and then the nose hits the water and i fling out of the straps and try again.

I tried at least 30 this afternoon it took a while to realise why I kept coming off but Im pretty sure its the nose. So how do I solve the problem?

I will be at it again early tommorow at rye if anyone can show me how its done or wants to have a crack that would be good.

Find a slightly bigger ramp would help.
Or wait till you gain a bit more hight before initiating the rotation. Once you sheet in to start the rotation you seem to stop gaining hight.

Pull your back hand down the boom a bit, and sheet in aggressively on the rotation while pushing forward with the front hand.
Wedge your feet really hard in the straps.
Don't worry so much about the downwind part. Just sail as you do normally, just not pointing. It's just one extra think to think about. Lift your feet as you go into the rotation, and be aggressive.
Did I mention the need for aggression ?

I'm still at the learner stage myself, so I empathise.

Concentrate on getting air first! Else you don't get enough and crash and burn.

Next is not ****ting yourself and bringing the front hand in. This negates the pulling of the back hand. If you throw the front hand hang close of the back you'll spin.

When i started i kept squid-inking in my wettie and keeping my front hand close. Throw it man! You'll spin.

Best of luck.

zacd, maybe take this with a pinch of salt as i have never landed a loop but i've done what you're doing a few times.

i think, but am not sure, that the rotation needs to be more horizontal rather than endo.

the endo type that you are trying and that i did....ouch... need to be done in the surf with more height

on flatter water you need to rotate more horizontal. so when you pull your back leg up under your bum also kick it upwind. you can do it with your rig only on dry land. this will help force a horizontal rotation.

pulling your foot up uinder your bum only will force a more endo type rotation.

well that's my theory anyways.

Its not that flat rye, Gestalt, the beach where little Zacd is practicing his loops. The swell is very simular to the stuff they loop on in the gorge, messy chop, that blows up bigger every now and then to different hights. On a big day like today, it can look abit like the spot they call swell city in the gorge..the only difference is we have a alot more sandy beach with a million sand bars..

See If you can get a mate to tail you and watch where you are coming unstuck.
I did this when I was learning them, I was coming out of the straps everytime. A mate followed me and told me to pull my legs up more. Next one landed no probs.
Good luck with it, sounds like you are over the hardest bit, the fear factor!

My first flat water attempts were a bit like that! When you "sheet in", try and get the rig forward on an extended front arm - your back arm will be sheeted in, but that's not the only action. Try moving your front hand back an inch or two to really get the feeling of getting the rig forward and getting pull on your front hand. Also, as you jump and tuck up with the back leg try and point the nose downwind with the front leg, so you start the rotation with the board pointing downwind.

That should help make it a bit less endo, and if the nose does hit the water it will just help spin you around really.

Ha i said I was close. Thanks for the tips, I wasnt throwing the rig enough with the front arm, still a long way away from clean landing but I did sail away so Ill claim it.

Having other people rev you up and a camera to show exactly where its going wrong makes life alot easier. Well that was the difference from today and yesterday anyway.

i was just talking to little Zak on the beach a few hours ago at rye, and he said he was stoked about his flip, and i think he should buy him self some red bull and celebrate.. the kid has put in the hard work, he was out there windsurfing at 7 am with a 4.0 today. So the results paid off for the little fella. Anyway i am still working on the dale cook jump.. today was a awesome day, i pulled some nice airs, and a few wobbly ones, and nose smacking ones. i want to start on me flips once i pull a dale cook air, thats me goal.. still trying to work out how he flys so high today was one of those days fellas, sailing me 5.0 in the sun with a nice side shore wind, it does not get much better than that fellasHANG TEN

Awesome job Zac. Sorry I was working in the morning, would been fun trailing you. Got a sail in at midday, but I was on and off the plane.

I vote Robo film Flipper on his jump attempts and post it up. I will kiss your booties if you can pull one off on your 120 excite.

Here's maybe another take on the forward - it's about mast foot and mast foot pressure.

The aim is to get the mast foot behind you as quickly & efficiently as possible.

The first tip is to bear off during the initiation/chop jump phase - this moves the mast foot partially downwind of you.

As you jump, you pull your back leg up to your butt, so the mast foot goes further downwind of you as well as increasing mast foot pressure.

At this point you need the mast foot to go backwards, so the more the rig is moved forward and across you, the more the mast foot goes backward.

So now, when you sheet in and look backwards, there is less pressure in the sail, and you rotate more easily!

allso leman i am looking for a 50 litre jp sinker, so keep a look out for one for me. I need a board to be able to sail in 50 knots. This wind is going nuts, there are trees every where, and half the sand along the beaches has blowing to china. Before ya know it we will look like pozo. Come on fellas around australia fly to vic and ride the waves.. Come on now pack ya windsurfers and fly here the wind is free

little hint for the fellas who live outside VIC, please dont tell the kiters.. PLEASESSSSSSS, August is our real windy month in VIC, every year august is windy. And the gales can blow on to september. And from september on it can blow a gale 1 or 2 times a week or some times blow every day till summer..

Buckethead unmasked! (Google for more info)

I believe this is the only authentic picture of him, which was published in Guitar Player magazine when he submitted some demo tapes a long time ago.

Check out his wiki page.

Cheers!
