Hello everyone,
My dads old rubber mast joint has lost the top metal screw piece. Anyone know a good method to loosen the top bit of the rubber to get the top screw section underneath the top of the rubber to get it back where it belongs. (First time poster so can't post images unfortunately)
Thanks
doesn't sound like a good idea to me. If you succed in getting it back, it's only going to come out again while sailing!
Could leave somebody with a long swim back to shore.
You're much better buying a new one. Some of us change the uni on a regular basis to avoid that senario
Its making my brain hurt trying to visualise what you want to fix - but the rubber is a consumable like decrepit said. Don't risk it.
If you're trying to get the bolts etc undone to replace the rubber, often u need some heat to soften the threadlocker that is used.
..garbage in question...garbage out reply.. as they say..generic video shows some examples for older universals Mistral/Fanatic/Bic:
If it's the diabolo kind, needs to be boiled to soften the glue (red Loctite), then they unscrew easily. Let cool down of course!

Jeez thats harsh.... as he stated first time poster, give him a chance. But yes replace.... not repair too risky. .

Yes well pointed out and sorry to original poster I should be kinder. Hope fix / replace of uni is easy.
Hi, I have my dad's old gear from the 80s. The universal joint rubber has perished and I can't find a new replacement that would fit as the base which fits to the board is different style. Board is a Blake Spirit. Any suggestions? Thanks!
