When I've finished sailing I find my fins smell fishy. It's especially strong if we have a lot of jellyfish in the water. Has anyone else noticed this?

What is your smelling technique? Maybe you have fish fingers?

Shifu,

This is Australian humor here. I found anything that Australians can pick up on and turn into a joke they will do, not all but a lot it seems. You will eventually get truth out of your question.

But I have never noticed anything fishy about my fins, or have I had the urge of smelling them, but it is Halloween today, so ya never know. I think this whole thread smells a little fishy. Sushi anyone?

I've found that slalom fins smell fishy-er than freeride fins. Can anyone explain that?

How long have you been sailing, and what's your weight. More info needed before we can give you a more definitive answer.

im still sticking with my original "no".

I am 80 kilos and have been windsurfing since 1942. I use Chinook harness lines exclusively because they have been proven faster in GPS tests. I find the 35cm fin smells the worst, closely followed by the 41.

Now my fin cases smell fishy too! What is going on here? Am I using too much downhaul?

The fish smell is all in the mind. When I first started windsurfing as a young bloke, there were so many varieties of fish smell that I swear they were limitless. But eventually I worked out that every variety was in fact no different to the prior one. Make the most of the fin you have, because the next fin is no more or less smellier than the one you are seeking to replace.

I use a thin rubber sheath on my fins while working them, particularly after coral spawn events, only impediment is you need more drive off the back foot but definitely stops the neighbour's cat hangin' round our garage
