Off the bat I have to say I'm nowhere near as fast as I thought !
Wind 13 to 17 kts ish.
Big floaty Exite Ride.
Sail 9.4 V8.
One to two metre wind chop. ( where I sail it gets rough even in light wind )
Light planing wind.
On a few downwind gusty whooshes which I thought was kinda fast , a measly 21.4 kts over 2 sec . 18.1 Over 500m.
I know I was on big kit and it was rough but geeze I'm slow.
I can now appreciate and look forward to cracking the 30 kts barrier but I'm going to need flatter water .
Its funny how slow comfy planing is around 15 kts and 21 seems so much faster , I wonder how it feels cracking 50 !!!

Maybe post in the GPS Speed forum. At the start of the season all I wanted to do was crack 30. I seemed to be stuck on 29.8. By the end of summer most runs are over 30, plenty of 5x10 second averages over 30. My gear is not that good but I'm learning something about conditions, gear setup and strategy all the time. Speed is fun.

I've had a couple good sessions at sandy point which I thought was scary fast , but on reflection was lucky to be 30 kts.
I need to get the big Warps out and use a way too small fin. I'm a big guy and can handle big sails but big guy , big sail , small fin seems dangerous

Its funny , after one low wind , slow session I think I can feel the drag of a 52 cm fin that I never thought of before.

ps . I got a tip , Just for safety sake , donk take your hand off the boom to look at your gps watch no matter how tempting !

I've had sessions on big kit in the 28.x knots or up to about 53kmh. 147board 58 fin and NP Hornet 8.2 & 7.7 Small waves in comparison tho. I hate lumpy water and big sails.

a break will fix this,nq seems to have the most efficient winds and if the wind don,t turn up we can drink beer until it does.

I would not worry too much about the fin size quite yet. 36 knots are possible with a 68 cm fin on a formula board. Find some flat water instead.

Imax1, Plenty of flat water here at GB. I regularly crank out 23-25kts on RB. 30kts on RB is my goal. 27.7kts RB pb. Good Local sailors see 33-36kts riding shortboards. Bring your GPS.
