Hey guys,
First post for me although I've been reading these forums for a while now.
I'm a semi-beginner with a pretty big AHD 159l board and 6.1 with a 48cm fin.
Got a question about it sliding out every now and then while planing. Doesn't happen that often but it's pretty annoying when it does, takes about 5 seconds for me to get the board going straight again, and all of this happens while still planing which is a bit of a strange feeling lol.
I've been trying different things to regain control once it starts skidding (digging the windward rail in more, twisting the board back straight with my feet, carving down to leeward) but nothing seems to really stop it happening, it just stops skidding when it's good and ready!
Is there anything mega obvious i'm missing? Or something pointing towards my kit not being right? (I'm about 68kg btw).
Thanks guys
Traction Loss = Number 1 cause, technique.
Not enough Downforce/Too much weight displaced to rear foot.
Downforce = Displacing your weight into the harness and boom, distributing your weight onto the mast foot (where the mast meets the board).

I'm sure a more experience windsurfer will post multiple changes soon on what can cause you to lose traction, it can be as simple as moving your harness lines back 10mm, or fin size/design.
But ill leave that to the windsurf gurus to point out.
Easy to fix, move your rear harness line back 25mm. then in 10 mm increments if its still doing this. But can just about guarantee that this will fix it for you first move.
But by all means use the Guy Cribb data, that's how I sorted this issue out, plus talking to local windsurf shop owner![]()
K thx guys, I actually tried adding much more downforce today and it didn't happen once, so I suppose it's all good.
thanks for the tips, and the guy cribb heads up, those pdfs are very useful!
