All my girlfriends windsurf, but dont tell the wife

The disadvantages are if you come home with an Itch

No disadvantage. In fact I allways make sure she has the latest gear which I have to test extensively to ensure it's going to be good for her.

No problem with a GF or missus that windsurf. The problem is on the way to teaching her.

Trick is to get a mate or a school to teach her. If you do it yourself, you get the "you're teaching me wrong on purpose" or "you gave me the wrong board to learn" sorta crap. (I ain't no head quack, but I believe it's called "transference" in psychology...)

Then as long as you're better than her, since you usually have a head start (no pun), then you get the "you're showing off again" or "you make me look bad" thing. That latter stage lasts for about 3-10 years.

After that, it settles...

My wife taught me to windsurf.......12 years later, here we are here in Maui having a family windsurfing holiday.....no complaints or problems here (pics in SA section)

Also looking at carbon extensions and new sails as well as skinny masts while wind is light.....love shopping for windsurfing stuff

Same same as divaldo, my wife got me into it. Now I am way more spaz about it than her by a mile.
Waiting4Wind is on the money with the new gear call, 100% improves the enjoyment element for the wawa hugely and I even get the odd 'why dont you get a new ....' call when she looks at my 8 year old sails.

This is wild, your wives getting you into it. I'm so used to the opposite. Me missus got me into cleaning the house, and that's about it.

By the time I met current wife (and for GFs before), I had been competing at a some level for many years. She never had a chance to catch up, even though she accompanied me at comps a few times, including two Worlds'. She wanted to be like the female competitors she saw at the time, but never put the effort to even get off the ground.

All water under the bridge now - or somethin' like that.

My girl learnt from scratch to jibing in less than two seasons. Many tears along the way but now she's great .She has the ability to get in the waves and has .I've seen her bust through an east coast shore break but for some reason she's scared of lano.Advantage is we only need one set of sails and she understands when i have to miss that family BBQ when the wind is on .Disadvantage.....rough hands in the summer months[}:)] ouch!

No disadvantages.... Its great, i get to go windsurfing most weekends, even go overseas windsurfing together, i get to use her small sail and board when it gets really windy, can easily justify buying more equipment for our quiver, i have someone to talk windsurfing to 24/7... need i go on....

The only disadvantage: we share gear and she has a habit of breaking it. Especially if it's brand new and I haven't had a chance to use it yet. Her tally for the last couple of seasons: 1 snapped board, a few holes in another board and 2 torn sails (one of them never used before) amongst others.

At least there is not too much opposition when it comes to buying new gear.

No really, as Corkers said, it's all good.
She's the one that's begging to go camping at Corro's (with the baby).

Get your chicks sailing (or find a sailing chick if you're single), you won't regret it!!

wifey can windsurf on a begginer level but i am the slave that does the rigging, de-rigging and get to hear all the complaints why it's not so perfect the water, wind, chop..it's fun to have 'them' around but when your friends are zipping back and forth your stuck trying to get her back at her most comfy set-up other than that i believe never teach her..it'll end up in a bloodbath[}:)]

You don't need my help. There seems to be quite a number of new female windsurfers at the club, just casually walk over and help them sort out their equipment and BINGO!

If that fails, "accidently" knock into them as they try to balance on the boards and let them fall into your arms.

Well I can see there is more advantages then disadvantages having your partner in the sport.
I am one of the lucky ones as well. I get the gear ready at home and my wife prepares all we are going to eat for lunch and an early dinner at the water.
She rigs her own gear and I will help her get the board into the water. She sets off sailing and I will finish rigging my rig while she has done a couple of runs already.
I do feel guilty some times when I should be giving her more advice on sailing more efficiently but you guys know what it is like. You get on the plane and start ripping the lake apart while strange men ask her if she is alright.
As the season warms up it is our kids who hate us windsurfing. It is all we talk about and think about ,well so they say.
Great way to get new gear and for keeping us both fit, sure beats going to the gym.

My wife and two daughters windsurf, so never a problem getting down to beach, Only trouble is my two girls are better than me, so take the p*** all the time. Other problem is it costs me a fortune in gear, and I cant get in me garage.

Advantages : She dragged me out of Perth to live in Gero.
Disadvantages: Seeing her drop into a 10 foot gnaraloo bomb without a care in the world when I wouldn't have taken off

Disadv:
Mine will only sail during warm/sunny months

And cannot rig or tack/gybe properly yet (but loves going fast, often across the river to where I have to swim or sail out to turn the board around so she can blast again)

She doesn't understand that the info I feed her will allow her to continue blasting around without my interference (and thus she ignores the info)

And its hard to sit back and let her learn how to come back, without feeling like you need to save her (to avoid getting yelled at), so the balance of self-learning to tuition is hard

Tips???

Adv:
More water time
Time together also equals windsuring time
Turn on of missus on a board in bikini
Getting missus more fit (health/looks)
