HELLO,
I RECENTLY ACQUIRED A Fanatic GECKO 133L in HRS construction from 2018 in good condition. IT IS THE FIRST TIME THAT I PURCHASED A FANATIC. Even if the whole looks solid and of good quality, the outer skin of the board (top and bottom) Feels A BIT SOFT, not completely firm, When applying pressure with the thumb.
I was wondering if this was typical of this type of construction.
Is there anybody to confirm this?
thanks.
Really hard to say without comparing to a known good board. The HRS is only wood and glass (no hi density foam layer) but the 0.5mm ish wood is equivalent to a 3mm PVC layer (5-6x more dense) as far as impact strength goes. However, its arguably not as strong as the further apart the laminates are, the stronger the board.
Thus, being thumped = no more likely to cause damage.
Flexing due to hard riding = possibly more likely to be damaged than 'normal' construction.
Compare the deflection to a new board the only way to know I reckon. Or..... it wasn't one of the ones from the fire sale was it....? ![]()
If its not from the fire, been ridden in a 'normal' manner, and not in stinking hot car or on a plane, and the softness is even all over I'd be most likely to assume its ok.
Thanks for those details and advices. It was not from a fire sale
.
Maybe The top layer wood and glass can explain why. Beside this the board seems very rigid overall. and yes I agree, I should compare with a new board. I actually have a smaller board F2 in LTD construction, a mix of epoxy and carbon , which give this typical black and white finish appearance and the comparison is not fair, the outer skin being much dense.
Yes I agree the comparison is not fair, as they're quite different. I meant to compare to another Fanatic HRS which might be difficult but would be the telling factor.
