Hi guys I live and windsurf in Jervis bay and I am after some opinions off people who own a fanatic blast or tabou rocket as I am after a new bump and jump board for the bay around a 100 lts just wandering the pros and cons of these 2 boards cheers Rich
Hi, I own both a Fanatic Blast 130 and a Tabou Rocket 125 (2013 model), which I use on Lake Como, where I live. In general I prefer the Blast, because I can squeeze a little bit more speed out of it. They have the same width (70 vs 69), but the Blast is 20 cm shorter (230 vs 250). They start planing equally easy, but the Rocket is more comfortable to control and easy on the chop, like on rails. It also soon reaches a plateau and that's it, while the Blast rewards more the efforts and the technique. Hope this helps.
Cheers brienno What year model is your blast and have you ever had any problems catching rails on it
My Blast is 2019, and I don't think the shape was ever changed. The only modification was after 2017, when Fanatic switched from powerbox to deep tuttle box, in order to accomodate a foil if wished.
Gybing in the chop is easier on the Rocket. But I'm a very bad gyber, so don't take me as a reference.
I havent tried the Blast but i have a 105 Rocket from around 2016 and its my high wind do everything board. I can put my race sails from 5.4 - 7m on it and race slalom or just bump and jump, or if it gets over 30 knots i can put a wave sail on it and blast around very comfortably in choppy conditions. Its a very versatile and quick board in my opinion.
not tried the blast either ,but with maddlad .The rocket 105 is a great allrounder ,i have the 2017 LTD ,fantastic in chop and goes like hell ,and a nice jumper ,with control .5,0 -7.0
i have had the 115 ,also a great board ,i still own a 2015 125 rocket ,a fantastic ocean board in 14-20 knots .nice with 6,5 -8,5
most of the newer rockets are a little wider, giving them a higher size sail they can carry ,and earlier planing ,
you might want to also think of the 3S tabou .
Had both boards in 115 L, the current model Rocket planes earlier and is faster in medium wind, the Blast is more comfortable in chop and excellent in planing through jibes. Both boards were much better in terms of speed and control with a slalom fin, I used Select Vmax4 because of the powerbox. Max sail size recommendation by Fanatic is a bit optimistic, I'd say almost 1m less for 2-3 cam sails. A light and fast Nocam is more fun on both. The Rocket carries a bit more sail than the Blast. I would call neither bump&jump boards, that would be a fast FSW for me, like a 3S Classic or a later model RRD FSW from V3 up.
Cheers
