I have 3 Ezzy cheetahs of various sizes. I have 2 non Ezzy constant curve masts (both North SDM) to fit them. I am curious as to whether any one has had Ezzy Sails and Ezzy Masts and noticed any difference in the sails in using the Ezzy Masts? Was it enough to justify the expense of changing over masts?

in the small sizes ,,yeah ,but the bigger sails , i wouldn't bother ,
i still run a north SDM on my 8,5 cheetah ,perfect .I had a 460 /75% north RDM on my 7,0 ,brought a EZZY RDM , thinking it would make
a huge difference ,but not really ,but on the 6.0 and 6,5 ,i went from a naish 430 90% to a 430 ezzy ...yes ,but naish even though it had a nice curve
the flex on the 430 ezzy was a lot better.both RDM .

north mast are pretty good ...its the change from SDM to RDM that will make the big difference ,

When i get to use my 6,0 and 6,5 cheetahs with my ezzy 430 /90% RDM its bliss.

i own 4 lions and 3 ezzy sw i started with a np mast and a sunshine mast, the sunshine cracked very quickly and the np is a back up now ,i brought 3 ezzy mast to do the sail range they definitely work and set better and are also bullet proof. but ezzy says his sail work with any mast ,just buy i mast to suit your most used sail and take it from there

Well Ezzy says it works with any constant curve mast (ie: most) but you would notice substantial loss of performance with a NP or a Maui/Gaastra for example (opposite ends of the spectrum)

sorry the np is a old 460 c 30 mast cc 25 it handled the same as the ezzy but always worried it would break due to its age

I recently purchased a Ezzy RDM mast to replace an older SDM with my Cheetah, Simmer and NP sails. One thing I do really like is that the RDM mast is so much easier to get in and out of the sail luff. The ezzy RDM as well as being narrower is also smooth and slippery compared to my old SDM. I don't have to peg or tie down the top of the sail to pull the mast out of the sail at pack up.

Ive got 2xLions n 1x8m cheetah. Having sailed the cheetah originally on NORTH SDM now on EZZY RDM. Surprisingly the rdm is harder to remove from luff sleeve?? Very tight at 1m from tip. Its noticably lighter than sdm.Sailing RBs n at 105kg I think the North sdm performs better marginally, handles a higher windstrength before getting overpowered. 7.5 lion on Ezzy rdm is awesome. Rigs a treat. Controllable to up to about 30kts. 9.5lion on 60% sdm sails nice but feels heavy. Havnt tried rdm on this sail. Big weight difference between 7.5 n 9.5 on the water. By the time im overpowered on 9.5 the 7.5 is right in the midrange powerzone. Nice spacing.

Another thing to think about is your carbon content .if you are using a 30-55 % sdm mast then jump to the 90 %rdm ezzy mast
that will be the game changer ...
so much nicer to use .

On the smaller sizes I found a huge improvement using the ezzy mast (5.8 legacy). The 5.8 never really set well on the generic SDM I originally used, and the wind range was not terrific. When I got the ezzy RDM (60% carbon) it rigged and sailed so much better it was hard to think it was the same sail. On the biggest ezzy sail I have (8.0 cheetah) I use a mistral flex tip SDM and it seems to rig and sail very well with a nice set and wind range. The other ezzys I have have only been sailed on the ezzy RDM, so can't make a comparison with other masts.

My sails are all Ezzy (3 x cheetahs, 2 x Wave sails) and invested in a 400, 430, and 460 mast. For me it was well worth it:

-extremely hard to break (sdms were lasting only a couple of years)
-lightweight (though not as light as some other RDM)
-flexibility
-high carbon (essentially full carbon with a layer of glass on the outside for abrasion resistance hence 91%)
-easier waterstarting and general rig handling because your hand fits around the luff better
-easy rigging
-better control in gusts (important i you are a lightweight)
-improved rig feel
-Ezzy backs the product to the hilt

Thanks again for your replies.
I have a North platinum 460 SDM and a North Gold 430 SDM 2012 and 2011 respectively.
I have also rigged with Sunshine RDM 60% 430 and a 460 60% but apart from the ease of inserting and removing the RD masts they were noticeably heavier to handle. I previously had a sunshine 430 sdm 100% that was super light but it exploded one day.

It is a fair outlay to change over so I wanted to be sure it was worth it.

once you've gone skinny there's no turning back!
RDM Constant Curve is what you want for your Cheetahs, can be other brands such as Powerex, North RDM etc so long as they are constant curve, the Ezzy masts are actually at the more affordable end of the price scale, also No Limitz will work well.

Ezzy, No Limitz are the go and they wont break or explode so you will only ever purchase them once, worth the investment IMO and yes the sails do perform better on the ezzy masts as that's what they were designed on and for.
