I am hoping somone can help,i posted a similiar e-mail some months back
i am experiencing a major windsurfing drought - and yes i did just replace my gear !!!
I am living 50 metres from the beach at Evans Head (down here for work for a few months) - beautifull beach and would be ok in a north easter (cross on) - only one problem this year as most are aware , we have only had south easters (no go at evans - hill in the way AND cross off) - i cannot stand to watch another 20 knot SE go past wasted (well by me anyway)
happy for flat water, lake pond , river (i might have to rule the richmond out at the moment with all the dead fish), bath tub, - ie very desperate !!!!
Could anyone steer me in the direction of some locations in this area which would work in a southeaster - Yamba is a little far but doable - but i can find no confirmation if it works in a SE and where people launch, - directions appreciated !!
I have also heard that Ballina has some spots but have not be able to work out where people (if any) sail in a south easter
any recommendations gratefully recieved
thanks
You can try broadwater beach road, the wind shouldn't disrupted up there.
Or head up to Ballina, some sailing in the river or just head to Flat Rock (towards Lennox Head just north of Ballina)
I have had a few great sails in the river at Ballina. There's probably a number of places you can launch but I prefer the park next to the caravan park near Shaws Bay on the eastern side of Missingham Bridge. Otherwise there's a sandbank you can launch from off Kingsford Smith Drive. On the couple of occasions I've sailed there, there is usually only one or two other people out.
It is particularly good in large swells as there is a sandbank in front of the bridge where you get breaking waves - much smaller and cleaner than what's happening outside thanks to the breakwalls - great for jumping and even a little wave riding. Southerly to south easter is best as is a dropping tide - otherwise there's the risk of ending up on the wrong side of the bridge in North Ck.
Hope you get it good. The forecast looks okay for the next couple of days.
