What do you think of using an etype for wave sailing? Can it withstand this kind of punishment? This will be in northern Europe so the waves generally soft, and I don't want to buy another sail.
The E type looks like a camless free race sail. If it has tubular battens don't take it in the surf. You can sail it safely in the open ocean just stay out of breaking waves.
A lot of people play in the waves here without getting close to the lip. They freeride over the waves and rarely fall. If that's the type of sailing you want to do, it may be possible. Sometimes all it takes is a small and shallow shorebreak to break a sail. Good habit is to pick your rig up around this area and transit quickly.
If you get caught in breaking waves you'll certainly need to duck them sinking your sail as deep as possible. Ask around at you local spot, they may give you some tips about launching, avoiding certain areas and such.
It's fine if you don't always crash on every run and just leave the rig in the whitewater while you straighten your booties.
If you are a first timer in surf, be conservative, keep your feet wide when not planing, go out past the surf before jibing, and ride all the way to thigh deep water before stepping off.
We've ridden 3 cam race sails in surf slalom with few problems.
Your biggest worry is lifting your board when the water is receding in ankle deep depth.
