Quick Question Folks,
I just purchased the above boom 2nd hand but have discovered it takes on water and doesn't like to expel it.
So either:
1. It shouldn't be taking on water and I need to find the leak, or
2. It is supposed to fill up but quickly drain as I uphaul so I need to find why it's clogged.
Anyone know which it is?
I'm hoping it's 1 cos the boom is really light when it's dry.
Thanks in advance
Is the tubing filled with foam? If not, it should be, and maybe it was removed by the previous owner?
Of course, there will be some hollow space when it's extended. I've never had a problem with booms taking on water before. It should be pretty hard for it to get in.
(I'm just referring to booms in general, I don't know about the Duotone, sorry if I'm not helping)
My 190-250 Duotone platinum boom never takes on water, floats well & the tail drains fast. It does however whistle like a demon above 18kn when the length is set around 210-235cm.
Pull the tail out and hang boom from head to drain in mild sun (not too hot) for a couple of days. Cut two pieces of closed-cell foam in a cylindrical shape and a few cm long oversized of boom internal diameter. Squeeze to get it into end of tube. Use boom tail to push foam up boom arms.
Is the boom or the boom tail holding water? boom tail should have a foam insert in both arms, is it there? Do both ends of the tail have plastic caps on them?, they can come off inside the boom, when on the tail ends caps should help prevent water getting in the boom. Try removing tail to see, if no caps on the ends start knocking boom, or use hose to force water in, to loosen caps, then glue back on tail ends with contact cement.
Thanks Folks.
Water tight it is then :-)
It's the boom, not the boom tail. And, yes, mine whistles like a banshee in high winds :-)
There are foam pads in the ends and the water slowly comes there out if I shake it. Guess that's where the issue is then.
I don't have caps - so maybe they are stuck up the extension - I'll check for that.
Thanks for the help.
