Hi all,
I know the seat v waist harness topic has been pretty well flogged but I have a specific question. I've had my left knee reco'd a few times (not from windsurfing) and it gets inflamed, mostly from pushing through the toes while holding the power down. I currently use a waist harness and was wondering (before doing an expensive test) if a seat harness takes pressure off the knees. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
I'm only theorising here, but with a seat harness you have to push out a bit, is this what's straining your kness.
With a seat harness you sit in it, so I don't think there's as much force on the knees. Can you borrow one from a mate just to try it?
Yes, I have only about half the cartilage I'm supposed to in one knee, removed due to sports injury a long time ago.
I've used both waist and seat harnesses extensively, and the seat harness is much better. With that harness, I'm using heal pressure more than toe pressure on the board, as well as pressure on the underneath of my foot straps with the bridge of my feet.
Also, I can w'surf longer than I can SUPsurf, because the sail pulls you up, relieving some weight on the knees, whereas SUPsurfing adds weight (pressure) to the knees with the constant balancing and just surfing.
If you are sailing in the waves, you need a seat harness with a high hook, like the F.O. Transit or something similar.
Many thanks, yes it's when I'm trying to push my hips up and out whilst driving through the toes to keep the board flat before I get in the straps. I don't have any hassle when I can put my weight through my heels or the mid foot. I'm sailing mostly flat/choppy Moreton Bay, no wave sailing. I'll invest in the seat harness then. Thanks again!
