That's not windsurfing that surfing while holding on to a sail, don't get it
Try to hit the lip on a 10 footer at Cloudbreak getting boosted to 25ft in the air projecting 50ft forwards then landing in the flats in front of the wave on a surfboard.

Float n ride... is it really worth the pain? Especially when body and gear are going to get dragged across the reef and there isn't wind enough to get you out of the impact zone?

You are giving away your age. Young people are bulletproof and never feel the cold or pain.
Although it was a great competition, float and ride is still annoying especially when there's a 5 knot rip going with the wind and then 8 foot faces breaking onto a one foot deep sand bank. Once on a wave it's great. Still like it to be windy enough to jump and ride on the way in.
Everyone at the Fiji comp was hoping for more wind but thanks to modern gear they were able to run the event in 10 knots.
