Are you after the elastic band or the info on the sheet. What is the info on the sheet that is important?
I made a measuring elastic band. I grabbed a length of lacky, say 1200mm, tied a knot at one end, tied a small piece of polly to the other (20mm) and marked with a black pen 400mm from the knot. Works a treat
Had one. If it helps, I reckon the mark on elastic cord was 1/3 of the way along.
Yes it was. It's only a ball park measurement anyway so it's not that useful unless your sails happen to have their centre of lift 1/3 back. It's just as easy to guestimate their position by standing a rigged sail up in the wind and then fine tune it on the water. Once you've got it right you can mark on the sail where the harness lines line up.
^^^^ exactly! What's the point of a device, all sails are a bit different. Have a guess then tune accordingly. You aren't going to keep sailing with them in the wrong position just because your measurer said it was the right position.
I use the Harness line elastic measurement every time I sail and I find its pretty much bang on every time, saves me heaps of time, yes its the 1/3 mark on the rear harness line, works on all of my sails, wave, race, big and small. Vote 1 Cribby ![]()

I found it pretty accurate too for various sails (coincidence?), but with an adjustable outhaul, tweaking the outhaul on the fly changes CE slightly.
The elastic died and I replaced it but it was larger diameter and it didn't work. I've since bought some new elastic and I'm trying that.
Not sure if it's the same.
I find it really good to get a pretty good setup on land if your launch spot is in a lee.

I use the elastic and it is always very close to the point if not correct. Only a slight adjustment needed if it is off. A great idea if you are using the same boom for different sails.
Do you guys all remove your harness lines and re grip your booms after each use. Cant see the issue here unless you do.![]()
If you have had a good session and got position right, take a photo of positioning and save it.
or for those who don't re grip after each use look at the wear and tear on your old torn up grip and take a guess, you will be surprised how close you are.![]()

From memory Guy says it is set up to pull harder on the front hand than the back hand as thats your brake hand (front hand). If you dont like it that heavy on the front hand you can shift your front loop a little further forward. It opens up the lines a bit but it will alleviate that heavy sensation without adding load onto the back hand. Guy says you should be able to sail along with your back hand off the boom if you want to. Some people like that set up and others dont. I guess its a case of personal preference.

Nope you aren't missing anything IMO, I do the same as you, adjust on the go. Once you get used to this you can even do it and stay planing, quick unhook, couple of twists, hook in and see how it "feels". So many things can influence harness line position (rake of mast, mast foot position, chop, type of sailing......).

I used to use Gaastra and they didnt like moving easily , now i use NP and they move easy , funny , cos there kinda the same . Mabee different material ?
Totally agree with Imax and Belly. If you only use or have one boom and use it from big to small sails then you HAVE to adjust your lines. Move forward when on smaller sails and short boom and move back on big sails with long boom. Its a "feel" thing.
I have one boom for sails from 8.6 to 7.8 to 7.0 to 6.4 and 5.8 with 32 inch lines.
Get used to your gear and tune it!!!!!!!!
Hope this might help in some way to setup a base to work from. Not just harness line position but your whole kit as it all needs to work together. Make notes of your setup each time of what works (for different board/sail combo) and improve/refine from there. Someone else's setup won't work for you. That all comes down to you and tuning the gear.

I got clip lines because they are easy to move around and supposedly don't wreck the grip... However I think they move around too easily on skinny booms.
