JP SLW 56cm fin shows cracks like this both sides.
I got it used, don't know how it happened.
Would you use it?

If it was the only fin I had and it meant missing out on a sail..for sure

it may only be in the outside layer, due to heavy flexing. Sand it back and see if the underlying fibres are sound.
If they aren't it'd likely to snap, at the slightest load. If they are OK, it should be good.
After sanding the cracks off, you could repaint it, and see if cracks reappear, if they do, dice it.

Sounds like a good plan.

Thanks

I would rebox it cutting out the cracked bit, it looks pretty bad to me. If you want to use it don't go too far from shore...

That's probably the safer plan Mr Sloshin

+1 Bin.

Your life is more important than getting extra value from that crap.

Bit dramatic Jake
I'm with decrepit
At least take the paint off and have a look
A non carbon fin of that length does bend a lot and it could have been a worse paint job than usual so it cracked
Doesn't mean the fin is buggered
Even if it is, could be cut down and reboxed
Could be good for beginner or grom in light winds close to shore

But nah just ditch it cos everyone can afford $200 for a fin

I have a few new CLSL fins (50&56 I think)if you want a better option. I ran a Tribal SL52 G10 fin then found a CLSL 44 and didn't look back after I used the carbon one. . I had a SB US147 at 95.5 wide. Top speed went up by 2 knots and used the same rig, NP V8 2020. Over 31 knots on open bay water. I'm now on Patrik Sl140 and don't need the big fins.
