On Monday night Cottesloe Council decided to get public comment during the next 42 days about formally changing the local law to make the area south of 'Telephone Box', from Rosendo St to the Dutch Inn Groyne a dedicated kiting and windsurfing area. The dunes along that stretch, opposite Salvado Street, would act as a buffer between kiters/windsurfers and the public. WAKSA wants no kite allowed to launch or land, or windsurfing, at Telephone Box because of kiter Marc's Sprod's death, repeated reports of near-disasters, the beach being too narrow, and others wanting to use that corner pool for swimming/kiddies snorkeling, ect. They could still go within about 200m offshore, however. This would make formal the unofficial area, previously arranged by WAKSA, centred on Salvado St, where kiters would get an extra shower, and Dutch Inn windsurfers will get the playground moved so they are not clashing with the parents at your long-established hang-out. Hit the council website if you want to comment - but WAKSA is also trying to get a dedicated spot for kiters and windsurfers just south of the Swanbourne-Nedlands SLSC, so if you'd like to mention that for your more northerly brothers/sisters, I'm sure it would be appreciated. Personally, I'm all in favour of what the council is proposing, as Perth's coast is only going to get busier ....
Lucky buggers
Do you reckon the AMR shire will put down a road, grass, flushing toilets and shower at my local windsurf spot?
Currently you need a 4WD, it has a dusty, dirt car park, long drop dunny and no path to get your gear down to the beach.
Hmmm second thoughts I like it the way it is

Yeah, we'd all like what you've got, but there are issues with several Perth spots that need sorting. It's not just kiters at this spot - windsurfers come in and use the small pool that's there too, and when the wind gets low and people are on large kites and big sails, swimmers/snorklers enter the mix. Just time to be a bit sensible about it, that's all. Next job; educating Perth drivers to merge properly
