Hi guys, I am an ex Kitesurfer who is trying to learn windsurf right now.
I got some second hand stuff from a friend of mine and they were half in good conditions and half totally gone.
For example the mast base was totally gone so I bought a new UJ Chinhook mast base cup plug style (is it correct??).
The mast extension is not so bad but is a NeilPryde and what I noticed is that when I plug the extension in the base it's not really firm, it seems that the chinhook mast base is a little bit smaller than the NeilPryde one.
Is it possible or maybe my extension is too old and I should get a new one?
Another problem is the mast and the sail. The mast is a Neil Pryde 430 but the Sail is a 4.7 which requires a 415 mast. Can I just leave a piece of mast popping out from the top of the sail? About 15 cm?
Thanks a lot and sorry I am a newbie in this sport.![]()

It depends on how sloppy the fit is between the chinook cup and the pryde extension. How much play is there? If it's only a couple of mm then thats fine. What you don't want to happen is there to be so much slop that the pins can trigger themselves. If you're learning then chances are you aren't going to be going over the falls so it should be OK...
15 cm is fine poking through the top of the sail, provided you've got an adjustable strap on the top of the sail so you can get the sail pulleys close to the downhaul pulleys when it's all set up nicely with lots of downhaul.
Get out there and have fun!
Hi guys and thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately nothing is available in Bermuda, yes you are right, there are no dealer here ...
The sail has the adjustable strap and it can hold 15 cm outside from the top.
About the space between the base and the extension I believe is few millimeters but it makes hard to unplug the extension because the two pins are a little bit too much inside the extension so if I press them, it's not enough.
I will probably buy online a chinhook aluminium extension just to feel more safe.
Anyway, it's hard but really a funny sport.
