Does anyone happen to have a spare twist-lock connector as used in Fibrespar booms and NP carbon booms prior to 2003? Even if its salvaged off a broken boom or something.

Until your new twist lock fittings arrive you can use pvc tubing connector sleeves from your hardware shop. Look in both the plumbing and electrical sections and you should be able to find the right size. They have an internal lip which fits nicely into the rings on the boom end. You have to shorten the sleeve so it fits neatly between the groove and the twistlock device. You also make a longitudinal cut so you can get it on and flip it up and down to change boom length. Wrap it with gaffa tape and your slipping twist locks won't slip.
Do you just need the sliding collar? The round black piece that you twist to tighten the boom? I've got an extra (from a busted boom) but it's with me in New York.

On closer inspection it looks like the teeth haven't worn too much but the plastic on the teeth-piece that the collar makes contact with when you twist it in has worn a bit and is not locking the teeth in tight enough. I'm going to bolster this bit to see if it fixes my prob. I was going to buy a new set but I can't believe how much they cost. I'd pay $40 max.

What happens with these are the rubbing on the teeth when sliding the extending part in and out especially if you are the type who takes the whole thing apart to clean it....better leave the extending part in at all times and only adjust when necessary...you hear the teeth grinding when you slide it off,i used gaffa tape for ages which stopped it slipping....usually just one side....am i right?

We are out of stock till a new shipment comes in early June, I think Padi at Surfconnect is the only one who has them all though you could try SHQ in Melbourne they bought 10 iun January. $69 is the retail price and we are not making a killing from them. Maybe Fiberspar is charging a lot but hey it's a $1200 boom to replace.
Ok, my apologies to Padi. No doubt I'll be giving him a call anyway cos I don't have much faith in my work-around.
I have found that with even new onnes the tapered collar that tightens onto the teeth reaches the end of its travel. I have filed the slot in the collar so you can rotate further and it has slowed down the failure of the teeth..
Also, after having 2 of these booms for several years, someone in the shop mentioned that you have to remove the collar completely before adjusting the boom length!!!! Wish they have told me that 6 collars ago!![]()
If the boom is fibrespar / neil pride then no need to buy new ends ever ! Just go to hardware store and buy 2 o rings that just fit in the carbon grooves. Tighten rings and thats it. Any one with old fibrespar booms, they can be salvaged.

Shane, yep, make sure its tight enough so you need expand it fit on and to role it into grove, make sure its profile isn't too high to prevent twist lock fitting back in place.
The small worn ridge should fit up against the O ring and the twist lock fitted back in place compresses tangs and it shouldn't slip anymore.
Tried mine tonight (NP boom)and it looks a good thing.![]()
Just need to ride test it later.
Thought more on this since last night, thinking that maybe a larger O ring (in cross sectional dia) may work just as well, as long as it was held in compression by twist lock and boom end sat up against it as it sat in its grove, instead of the ridge on the tangs.
Fitted one, and it looked OK but will need to be test run. Just another thought some may want to try.
