Tossing up between 180-240 NP X9 but worried about the weight
anyone know how much they weigh?
and the new 2011 180- 245 Chinook Pro 1 Carbon which has a nice 28mm grip and only 2.5 kgs but looks like a crappy head but hard to tell from looking at the pikkies
Any feedback/advice on just those 2 booms
not carbon v Ally pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeze
I heard NP put the boom on some scales and it weighed all the scales and they had to close the scales..
I've just bought a Simmer full carbon and I reckon for the price you can't go past it - $800 for same quality as all the more expensive ones, but no skimping on quality like the $500 ones.
But their longest is a 160-220
If NP don't put the weight in their promotional material.... welll.....
But that Chinook - 2.5kg sounds a bit light for a 180-240
The head on the Chinook looks the same as my Aeron booms except for the lever. Haven't had any trouble with them for the few years I've been using them. I'd go Chinook if you are set on those two brands, good reputation.
I've got both the Chinook carbon and the x9 carbon - had them both for years and they're still going strong. Both are great booms but without a doubt the X9 is the better boom of the two simply because it is much stiffer - but then it is also more expensive. If you can afford it I'd go the x9 but the Chinook is still great - Hope that helps.
I pained over buying a carbon boom last season. Fianlly bit the bullet and bought a simmer.
Love it, and can't believe I didn't do it sooner. The head locks nicely to the mast and the narrow arms are very comfortable.
Cheers,
Ray.
Just got a new Severne enigma 140-190 - first sail o/powered 4.5 and it just feels unreal - 5 or six sails i am really impressed - can say its sweet as - no clew end markings which I thought would be a pain but you just extend it out once clamped and then set it - its not a problem at all - they do a big one as well
Makes my 2 year old sails feel like new ones - super slim in the hands and zero flex and pretyy light- certainly worth considering
$800 for just a boom![]()

Just that I like to be able to crash my stuff .......... unlike micron-thin inflatable pool toys with strings attached, for which some people pay over $1000
(In response to the troll, sorry)
