Hello all,

I am all new in windsurfing, currently getting lessons at UWA on saturaday mornings. I got some 2nd gear off Mark on here but the board is slightly too small for the me as a beginner. I have called around and here are a few that I got priced.

145 funster for $1350
130 funster for 1300
141 Starboard go for 1499

I am 63kg and I can turn with the board. Can't quite gybe not tack yet.

I kind of want something I can progress into. I have had a look on the second hand market, but I am unsure of what to get.

Thanks in advance.

Otto, the 130 funster will suit you for your weight group. Keep in mind, that it may get a few hard whacks in the learning curve. Others such as family or close friends cann use this board as you progress, so if you have this in mind and others are a tad heavier, then the larger volumes would be the go.
In saying that all three are great items to progress with. Just check for old damage and that they are still water tight.

The 145 Funster is the go.

These are easy to learn on but still offer some excitement as you progress and learn to get planing and use the harness and footstraps.

The funster looks pretty good. So, by getting the 145 is that more for future proof for other users? I guess getting something bigger would make it easier to balance?

Thanks

Agree with 145. I learnt on the 160 and was gybing, tacking and water starting within 6 months. Very user friendly but i found it too big once i progressed.
The 145 would still be fun and quite lively on those marginal day with a big sail on.

at 65 kilos and already going - do NOT get a 160
i weigh 100 kilos and started short boarding with a 160
at your weight with starter skills u could go less than 130 !!!
to be safe u can go 130 - as marked above
and u can sell that board easily IF it gets too big for you later
ENJOY and go for FUN

I have seen a soft deck Starboard Kode at my local store with a centre board insert. Around 130L. It may have been around $1200

If you can get your hands on one of those it's a great board to progress on, and will be useful for a lot longer than the other three.

I have to agree with the above 2 comments. At 110kgs I started with a 165 xcite ride. That board would still be a great light wind board had I not traded it for a sup. I progressed quickly to a 135 lt, and soon after to a 105lt. Now, due to getting sick of waiting for suitable, string wind - I've gone back up to a 116 & 129lt only in my quiver... and still at 110kegs.

You would be better on a kode, large carve or futura around 130lts imo. In saying that, those boards you listed would hold their value as they are all very good 'learner' boards and you can share your learning with others. You will just need a smaller board sooner rather than later.

Any of those boards would be good for you, and resale when you outgrow it would be easy.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Took the plunge and got the 130 funster. I was umming and arring between the 130 and 145, but i think the 130 is big enough (i had a go on one on the weekend) i can't wait for it to arrive. :)
