Have just acquired 2020 S_Pace sails... has anyone else got them and would be happy to exchange tuning tips. (Seems VTS stickers are incorrectly placed and the outhaul recommendations are up to 6cm different to what I am using.)
Cheers.

Hi,
i have a set of 2020 S-Pace, 7.8,7.3,6.6, and 6.0.
use them with Fanatic Jag Boards.
sails have a wide wind range and need to be rigged carefully to get best performance.
used the 7.8 for foiling and fin and happy with performance. The 7.3m I use on the 108 board and is really quick.
i downhaul past the Max for best trim. Same for the smaller sizes.
Outhaul just touching back of boom and run adjustable outhaul on all the sizes. compared to Warps and Falcons I find the set up much easier and fun to sail as an average blaster.
hope this helps.

The issue here is that Mikey100's sails have the VTS marks in the wrong place.

If it was me and I was bothered, I would email Duotone and ask them for measurements as to the exact positions for the markings.

Looking at their video, taking a screenshot and measuring the sail on my laptop screen, the distance from the end of the pink at the mini batten to the middle of the pink seam was 12cm. as marked with a red dot. The minimum marking was 3.1cm and the maximum was 9cm. So roughly 1/4 and 3/4 of the way between the pink at the mini batten to the middle of the pink seam. Whether its that same handy ratio in the other sizes Duotone will let you know, of someone reading with the VTS markings (if theirs are in the correct place that is).

Id suggest once you have a preferred downhaul setting for the usual wind, make a mark with a waterproof marking pen on the sail level with the bottom of the mast. Then next time you dont need to look at the markings on the leech, just look at the mark on the sail and the bottom of the mast, and adjust by a cm or 2 for stronger/lighter wind. Like Ezzy sails have.

^ For real world tuning surely looking at the sail is better than looking at a mark down near extension?
I sail Ezzys. Sure the indicator is ok, but looking at sail is where its at.

Thanks Carbonlover, PhilUK and Olskool for your input. I have now contacted Duotone and was recommended downhaul to the Max vts sticker ... then add '5 more clicks' on the ratchet base. This equates to 1.5cm, taking creases to the pink, curved line. Have also read 'just past pink line' is where Max vts should go- don't trust the downhaul numbers!
I am downhauling to pink line and finding that's the best atm. I use the little 'window marker patch' (found in the downhaul rope stash pocket) in the 'bottom of mast marker slot' to perfectly mark my preferred downhaul setting once I find it. Love using this as it can be easily adjusted as my preferences change (Velcro). Told to outhaul so sail can just touch boom at cross batten when 3 fingers are pushed down firmly there. will keep experimenting!

But once you have a good setting you dont need to look at the leech, flapping around, on uneven ground, or with the case of x-ply its harder to see exactly where the looseness ends compared to monofilm.

^Yep i get what you're saying.
But here's a scenario. I rigged my 2018 (new) 9.5lion on 490. Dialed in to spec(ext)n to the factory Velcro marker near extension. The sail looked terrible MUCH too loose at leach. Huh? Hmmm. Thought the factory markings were wrong.
After rigging over n over n measuring everything. Found the 490 was actually 492. Looking n rigging to the marker would never have showed this. Looking at the SAIL definitely showed something was out of whack.
It takes 30sec more to stand on extension n look up at head of sail to see if correct.
Its ALL about the sail.

I use multiple inputs when tuning the downhaul on my Warps, the VTS stickers, the distance between the sail pulley block and extention pulley block, the looseness of the sail leach and how the sail feels when sailing. With TOW with each sail, these inputs are consistently the same. I make minor adjustments (1 to 2 cm) for wind strength. I can adjust on the water using my XT 2.0

It's interesting how Duotone has widened the indicators from the last year of the North S-Type which are well under 10cm apart. I understand that specs are always just a starting point and plenty of experienced, skilled windsurfers deviate from printed specs and get favorable results. Discovering what works is part of the stoke for me.
