Hi there,
I have promised myself a 10-14 day holiday at Boreen Point some time in the next 12 months to do nothing but sail when windy and drink beer when not.
I live in Mackay, NQ, (crocs, box jellies, noahs, irukandji, wayward kite persons) and I was wondering whether there is anthing to watch out for (obstacles) in the lake, for eg. shallow points etc. I have read that it is more consistent on a North Easterly? Does this suggest better times to go? I was thinking January.
Also, any tips on renting a lakeside house would also be appreciated.
Cheers.
rental homes are listed here bpre.net.au/p17.htm
Best month for North or North east wind is definitely November.(been going there for over 15 years) Wind from now on is mostly South east which is ok too but can be more gusty.
Hey, thanks for that..,, when you say gusty, how gusty? "annoyingly just forget it and go and drink beer gusty", or, "put up a really big sail and get over it gusty"??
Can be more like squally with holes rather than gusty, still worthwhile. There can be showers or rain coming through with the SE wind which can make it stop for a while but it's not always the case. On 30 December last year we had a fantastic day with wind straight from the south and very constant and sunny.
I have 5 years of GPS data sessions from SE qld and the most sessions I seem to get are in the months of November and March.
We were up there a couple of weeks ago, was some nice 12-15 knot winds with probably 15-18 gusts Then no wind at all. Got stuck waiting for the wind a few times, lucky the board I was using was a floater. We were only using a small sail (4.8) so that didn't help. Got a 6m to try out next up there.
